ontan iffi aae CM Mews MURPHY - The TEL Sunday School <3 ass of the First Bap tist Church met on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 4, in the home of Mrs. Lassie Hughes. This meeting was a surprise for Mrs. Hughes as she has bean ? shut-in for several months. Mrs. Nora Ford, president, presided. The meeting opened by the class song "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". For the devotional, all pre sent quoted their favorite scripture verse, followed by silent prayer and closed with the class motto. Mrs. Winnona Hughes and Mrs. Florrie Sherrill served refer shments to the following: Mrs. E. L. Shields, Mrs. J.M. Ramsey, Mrs. Osie Foster, Mrs. W. H. Murray, Mrs. Bertha Kephart, Mrs. W. C. Kinney, Sr., Mrs. John O'Dell, Mrs. Mae Towns on, Mrs. Nora Ford, Mrs. W. A. Bell, and one visitor, Mrs. Flonnie Sherrill. The general meeting of the WSCS of the First Methodist Church met Tuesday morning, Feb. 4, in the Men's Bible Classroom of the church. Mrs. Martha Davis was program leader. After sing ing "Blest Be The Tie That Binds", Mrs. Davis continued with the program on "Metho dist Heritage". She used the scripture Act of Confession, Prayer World Globe, To - gether Magazine and Metho dist Women: Our Faith began with the Birth of Christ, then the command to go and teach, The Circuit Rider and United Now. The president, Mrs. W. H. Taylor, presided over the business session, during which time it was decided to have a general meeting on the first afternoon at 2 p.m. each month. Mrs. Ann Wil kins, treasurer, gave her report, and a discussion of a church worker will continue to the Circle of each Circle. Ten members werepresent. -M Mrs. Margie Witherspoon is visiting her sister and her brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Dudley of Raleigh. -M Mr. and Mrs. Jack Owens and children spent the week end in Spartanburg, S.C.,with relatives. -M Mrs. John Carringer and daughter, Markie, and Mrs. Larry Black, visited rela tives in Raleigh over the week end. -M Miss Patricia Crawford of Atlanta spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Crawford. -M Miss Carlene Bates of At lanta, was last weekend guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. CreeH Bates. -M Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ed wards and children spent Fri day and Saturday in Atlanta. Enroute home they visited her mother, Mrs. Clara Jenkins of Alphretta, Ga. -M Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Bates and son, Michael, of Atlanta, were weekend guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Creed Bates. -M Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wells have returned home after spending the past weekend as guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Wallace of Knoxville. -M Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Lay spent Monday in Cleveland on business. -M Elmer Kilgore spent last Monday and Tuesday in Char lotte on business. -M Mr. and Mrs. Bill Seegers of Cullowhee were recent guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Creed Bates. -M Tommy Palmer, student at WCC, Cullowhee, spent the weekend here with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pal mer. -M Mrs. Clarence Butler of Gainesville, Ga., was weekend guest of her grandchildren. -M Mr. and Mrs. John Young and Lane of Atlanta, were the weekend visitors here. -M Mrs. Tom Palmer and her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Hubbard, spent several days last week in Knoxville with Mrs. Pal mer's son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mr*. James Is rael. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Gibson of Culberson, Rt. 1, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Stiles of Mur phy, Route 4. The bride's brother, the Rev. John Gibson, performed the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Pat Verner of Chatta nooga, Tenn., cousin of the bride, was pianist. Given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Paul Lomi nac, Jr., the bride wore a street length dress of pink 1 0th Birthday Party Honors Tim Ramsey MURPHY - Tim Ramsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ramsey of Murphy, was hon ored at a birthday party given by his mother on his ninth birthday Monday, Feb. 10. A Valentine motif was car ried out in decorations and refreshments for the party, centered around a heart - shaped birthday cake. Games and opening of gifts by the honoree highlighted the party. Refreshments were served to guests at the party includ ing Chris McConnell, Chris Christy, Tommy Thompson, Kendall Hampton, Joe Jeffr ies, George, David and Don ald Ramsey, Jr., and the honoree. Stork Shower Given For Mrs. Abernathy MURPHY - A stork show er honoring Mrs. F. L. Ab ernathy, Jr., was given at the home of Mrs. Walter King in Murphy, Friday, Jan. 31. Decorations included a table centered with a minia ture bassinet and doll, with a yellow and white color scheme. Entertainment included games and opening of pre sents by the honoree. Refresh ments were served by hos tesses, Mrs. Alvin Crisp and Mrs. Richard DeWeese to the 25 guests present. Peacbtree Ntws Peachtree Home Demon stration Club met Thursday afternoon, Feb. 6 in the home of Mrs. Ralph Sudderth. The meeting opened with a sons, "This Is My Fathers Worlcr\ Mrs. Aud Sudderth gave the devotional. Miss Wheeler talked on Style trends and gave an in teresting demonstration on care and use of small elec trical appliances. During the social hour the hostess served coffee, and fruit cocktail cake to those present. -p. Mr. and Mrs. Ethridge of Andrews were guests last week of Mrs. H. S. Sudderth and family. -P Mr. and Mrs. Grover Walsh were surprised Saturday night when a large number of friends dropped in for a friendly visit bringing gifts for their new home. Gail Walker Honored With Birthday Party MURPHY - Mrs. Lillard Walker entertained with a birthday party at her home Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, honoring her daughter, Gail,on her 11th birthday. Games and contests were enjoyed by all. After the gifts were opened and passed a round, the hostess served cake, ice cream, and cokes to the following: Rachel Thomspon, Debbie Waggoner, Kathy Gibson, Jen nie Newton, Susan Barren, Karla Joseph, Kathy Ensley, Cherry White, Lisa Breland, Minnie Ray Moore, Patsy Hen son, Terrelle Puett and Ter esa Crain. OBITUARY MRS. KATE MASSEY HAYESVILLE - Mrs. Kate Massey, 80, of Rt. 2, died Friday, Feb. 7, in a Hiawas see, Ga., hospital after a brief illness. A native of Jackson County, she was the widow of James G. Massey, and had lived here for the past 36 years. She was a member of Shady Grove Bap tist Church. Surviving are two daugh ters, Mrs. Carl Burch of S wanna noa and Mrs. Jack Ford of Hayesville; three step sons, Wayne of Brasstownand J ames of Warne, and Charles Massey of the home; two sis ters, Mrs. William Moore of Whittier and Mrs. HayneRea gen of Weaverville; two bro thers, Steve Bradburn ofBry son City and Tack Bradburn of South Carolina. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shady Grove Bap tist Church. The Rev. Frank Dockery, the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and the Rev. Earl Cable officiat ed and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Forrest Cable, Clarence and Early Swanson, Varrest and Vern Ford, and Frank Bumbardner. Townson Funeral Home was in charge.
