The program, "A Sea Of Giving", was presented by Mrs. Ray Matheson, Mrs. R. A. Dewar, Mrs. Lucy Laugh ter, Mrs. John Whisenhunt, and Mr'. Roy Williams. A worship setting, consisting of cross and a tmnature sea scene symbolizing the World Council of Churches was used. It was announced that an Officers Training Day would be held at Robbinsvilleon May 26. ANDREWS - The Wesleyan Service Guild of the First Methodist Church met at the home of Kirs. Glenn Mathe son on Tuesday evening. May 5, at 7:30 p.m. with Mrs. Tommy Axley as cohostess. Miss Gladys Christy, presi dent, presided. New officers for the com ing year were elected. They included, president, Miss Gla dys Christy; vice-president, Mrs. OlanStratton; treasurer, Miss Vera Moore: secretary, Mrs. Wayne Battle; promot ion secretary, Mrs. Walter Brown. Keacnxree Kurai Development Club Meeting Held MURPHY--The Peachtree Rural Development Club met on Monday night. May 11 in the Peachtree School with a pot luck supper with seventy five persons attending. Mr. Helton Carmichael showed slides of the uses of the National Forest. Plans were made for im proving mail boxes, a cim munity trash dump and for testing home water supply. The next meeting will be held on June 8th at 6:30 in the Peachtree school with a pot luck supper. ANDREWS - Lawrence Winfrey, 54, who had work ed for the town of Andrews for many years, was killed Saturday afternoon, May 2, in a highway accident in Georgia that also took the life of two companions who have rela tives here. Winfrey was in a pickup truck with Ransom White, 30, of Liiburn, Ga., and William Isaac White, 16, of Lawrence ville, Ga., brothers, when it skidded on a rain-slick curve on U. S. 41 near Dalton, Ga., and collided with a transport truck. Miss Alexander Is ? grad uate of Hayesvljle High School and Western Carolina College where she was a member of Sigma Kappa. She has been employed in Mecklenburg County School system at Char lotte for the past year. Mr. Brunnemer graduated from Ashley High School in Gastoma and Western Car olina College where he was a member of the Delta Sima Phi. The wedding date is May 17 in Oak Forest Methodist Church near Hayes ville. On Saturday night Miss Alexarder was honored with i shower in the home of Mrs. Wiley McGlamery. Mrs.Alvin Penland and Mrs. Wallace Crawford assisted Mrs. Mc Glamery. A color scheme of green, white and yellow was used. A minature bridal party cen tered the serving table. There were thirty-five present. E.J. Phillips Honored ANDREWS - E. J. Phillips, a native of Andrews and the son of Mrs. Jake Phillips, was honored Thursday by the students of Frank L. Ashley High School of Gastonia by de dicating their yearbook, 'The Spinner* in a ceremony before the student body. The dedication stated: "The students of Frank L. Ashley High School have been privileged to know E. J. Phil lips as a man for whom we have had the utmost respect and as a counselor andfriend. He has always been ready to help us with our problems, encouraging us so that we could find solutions when our problems sometimes seem ed to have no answers. He came down from the mountains of North Carolina with his wife, the former Mary Alice Cowan, of Cullowhee, and settled in Gastonia. "Next year will see the young school executive in a role as principal of Arling ton Junior High. There, he will have sole responsibility for the running of the school. May 5 in the Men's Bible Class Room. Yearley reports were filled out and a Treasure report was given. It was decided to change the meeting date back to the First Tuesday in each month at 10 a.m. It was also announced that the Sub District meeting will be held at Hinton Memorial Center, Hayesville, May 26th. It was also urged that all attend that could, and also urged especially that all the officers attend and will receive training from the Dis trict officers. Winfrey had been employed for the past year by the Ed wards Engineering Corp., of Chamblee, Ga., and commuted on weekends to his home here. The White brothers were grandsons of Will White of the Peachtree community of Cherokee County. The patrol station at Dalton, Ga., said their bodies were returned to Lawrenceville. FRANK GRANT ANDREWS - Frank Grant, 86, retired lumber man, died suddenly at his home here Friday, May 8. He was a native of Graham County, an active member of the First Baptist Church here, and a charter member of die Old Timers Loggers Union. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ella Lovingood Grant; a daughter, Mrs. Daisy Tatham of Andrews; a son, Fred Grant of Salisbury; and three grand children. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. T. C. Christmas officiated and burial was in Valleytown Cemetery.
