Top Murphy Students For 63-64 Announced MURPHY - Adinah Lynn Brown his been chosen as valedictorian and Eva Beth Oockery as salutatorian of the 83-64 graduating class of Murphy High School. Adlnah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Brown of Murphy, is a senior class reporter, Co-Art Editor of the school paper, editor of the yearbook, and was voted "Most Likely To Succeed" by her class mates. She plans to enter Van derbilt University next fall. Eva is the daughter oi Mrs. Willa Mae Dockery and Clyde Dockery of Route 3, Murfrfiy. She participated in four years of basketball and was All - Conference forward this year, has been in the Music and Dramatics Clubs, was secre tary of her sophomore class, and Student Council Repre sentative, has been a member of the Pep Club four years, and was Captain of the Cheer leaders this year. Eva was Maid of Honor in this year's football court, is president of her senior class, and was in the Senior Play. Miss Dockery plans to further her education at Western Carolina College in the fall. Adinah Brown Eva Dockery Elizabeth Sprung Becomes Naval Reserve Candidate ELIZABETH SPRUNG COLUMBIA, S. C. " Grace Elizabeth Sprung, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Sprung, 236 Grant St., Mur phy, N. C., was sworn in April 28 as an Officer Can didate in the U. S. Naval Reserve at the U. S. Navy Recruiting Station here. Miss Sprung is one of twenty young women select ed over the nation each year for the Navy's College Junior Program for Women Officer Candidates. Following an eight - week training period in Newport, Rhode Island, Miss Sprung will return to complete her senior year at Western Car olina Colleg where she will be awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathe - matics. Miss Sprung will receive her commission as Ensign, U. S. Naval Reserve in June, 1965, and return to Newport, R. I., to complete her officer training. Allen, formerly of Swannanoa and now living in Upsilanti.Mich., has been appointed to the Uni ted States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Gary, a 17-year old senior at Ypsilanti High School is president of the student coun cil, and has a 3.87 average (based on 4.0 for all A's).
