BIG CATCH WORTH $135.00 -- Jim Ed Hughes (L) of Murphy, won a $135.00 boat prize by catching a 45 lb. Black Grouper off the coast of Florida June 19. C. - Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Perrin announce the engagement of his daughter, Miss JaneWard taw Smith to Mr. John Richard Moore of Atlanta. Mr. Moore is the son of John Bunyan Moore and the late Mrs. Moore of Murphy. A September wedding is planned. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hughes and family spent the weekend in Sylva and Hendersonville. Surviving besides the parents are a sister, Wllda Jean, and three brothers, Ben, Daniel and Robert Hembree, all of the home; and the pa ternal grant^arents, Mr. and Mrs. J. .C. Hembree of Murphy. Storey, 71, of 97 Utopia Road, Chunn's Cove, died in a local hospital Thursday evening, July 9, after a long illness. Mrs. Storey was a native of Commerce, Ga., and was the widow of Joseph B. Storey who died last November .They had lived in Asheville for the past 20 years and were former residents of Murphy. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Missionary society. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth Whitehead, of the home; two brothers, William Paul Whitehead of Comer, Ga., and Howard F. Whithead of Lynchburg, Va., and a number of neice* and nephews. Services were held at 11 A.M. Saturday In the Morris - Hendon -Black Funeral Home chapel. Burial was In Forest Lawn Cemetery. D. L. LOVINGOOD MURPHY - Dock L. Lov lngood, 83, died Saturday afternoon, July 11, in i Murphy Cherokee Scout * Clay County Progress, Thurs., July 16, 1964 hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Cherokee County, son of the late Dent and Mary Ann Crook Lovin good. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, J. D. OF West, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Duvall, Mrs. Icie Davis, Mrs. Gladys Radford all of Murphy, Mrs. Viola Woody Disten of Oregon, and Mrs. Lillie Nicholson of Gas tonia. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Hanging Dog Baptist Church. The Rev. Thomas Truett officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Don and Wade Lovingood, Eugene Fair, Ross Radford, and Frank and Charlie McDonald. I vie Funeral Home was in charge. VIRGIL HOGAN ANDREWS " Virgil Luther Hogan, 66, died Friday after noon, July 10, at a local hospiul. He was a native of Clay County, the son of the late Rev. J. G. and Alice Stamey Hogan. For the past 14 years he has been living in Gilmer County, Ga. He moved back to Andrews In May of this year. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Laura Piercy Hogan; five sons, Everette of An drews, William of Alpharetu. G*., Virgil Jr., of EUijay, Ga., Herbert of Cumming, Ga., and Clyde of the home; three daughters, Mr*. Sara Mae Watkins and Mrs. Thomas Moss, both of Blue Ridge, Ga., and Mrs. Lucille Raxter of Andrews; four brothers, Harve, Fred and John, all of Andrews, and Rice of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Derreberry and Mrs. Mattie Belle Lunsford of Andrews; and IS grand children. Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Valley*iwn Baptist Church. The Rev. Dewey Land and the Rev. Harold Cople offi ciated and burial was in Valleytown Cemetery. Big Fish Nets $135 MURPHY - A $100 prize, posted by (he Dealer Ware house Corporation of Knoxvllle, Tenn. and a $35 boat pool (or the largest fish caufht was won by Jim Ed Hughes of Murphy during a three day fishing trip sponsored by the Corporation. Thirty -nine dealers from the Southeastern District left by chartered bus for Destln, Fla., near Ft. Waldon, Beach, Fla., and returned Sunday, Jine 21. Jim Ed caught the two largest fish on the trip. The first, a 45 lb. Black Groi^ier, and the second, a 22 lb. Red Snapper. Jim Morgan, who Is employed by Hughes Supply In Bryson City, caught the third largest fish, a King Mackrel, weighing 14 lbs. Jim Ed Hughes and Jim Morgan were the only dealers from North Carolina on the trip. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Swain over the week end were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bahomon of Elcentro, Calif Mrs. Grace N. Bracken, Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Bateman and children, Terry and Susan, of Greenville, S. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard K. Whitehead of Atlanta. His commanding officer, Col. James Albertson, gave the bride in marriage. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Patterson, are former residents of Hayes ville. Mrs. Whitehead is the granddaughter of Mrs. C. L. Patterson and the late Mr. Patterson, and Mrs. Paralee Taylor Smith and the late Will Taylor, all of Hayes ville. The bride wore a drass of re - embroidered Imported French guipure lace and china silk with matching jacket. Mr. Peckinpaugh attended Spring City High School in Spring City, Tenn., and Gain esville Junior College, Gain esville, Texas. The bridegroom graduated from Druid Hills High School In Atlanta and was an honor graduate with a B. S. degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
