Dear Mayor Mason:
I have visited many places
and attended many functions,
but I have never before en
countered anything to near
equal the complete heart
warming hospitality extended
by your Town and community
to those os us who visited
Murphy last Friday. I know
that no group of people has
ever felt so welcome as we
did when we pulled into the
Murphy station.
I am sure that the trip
to Murphy by those who went
by train will be remember
ed for years of their most
pleasant ventures. I am eq
ually sure that this memory
will be so pleasant because
of the efforts of so many of
your fine people of Murphy
to make us feel so welcome.
1 have yet to hear anyone
mention the trip without an
expression of appreciation for
the wonderful hospitality and

DHIA Training
MARTINS CREEK- D. C.
Smart of the Martins Creek
Community has recently com
pleted the DHIA training at
North Carolina State College.
Mr. Smart is one of the first
from this area to complete
the training which he will use
In testing dairy herds in Cher
okee and Clay Counties.
The Dairy Herd Improve
ment Association is an organ
ization made up of dairymen
for the purpose of getting
production and feed records
kept on their herds.
The DHIA program helps
the dairymen get his opera
tion on a business-like basis.
It helps him determine In
come from milk, amount of
feed fed, feed costs, return
over feed costs, calving dates,
and other individual cow re
cords. All this information
is compiled with an IBM sys
tem monthly.

turned home from a visit
with her children in Akron,

MISS JUDY SANDERS, a
freshman at Western Carolina
College, Culjowhee, was re
cently elected to represent
Moore Dorm as the represen
tative to Women's House Gov
ernment. Judy plans to get a
B. S. In education with Spanish
and P. E. as her majors. The
housemothers of Albright -
Benton andMooredormitories
will serve as advisors. Judy
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
B. T. Sanders of Murphy, and
a 1964 graduate of Murphy
Hiph School.
Plant Moves After
15 Years In Murphy
MURPHY- After fifteen years
in Murphy, Smoky Mountain
F iber Company, owned and op
erated by Mr. and Mrs. S. Ce
cil Burgess, moved their plant
and home to Sylva, N. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Burgess stat
ed that the move was made "not
from choice" but due entirely
to the fact that they were un
able to secure enough hickory
timber to keep their plant in
full operation. They expressed
sincere regret in having to
move from Murphy which they
felt was home.
They take this means to say
"Thank you" to their loyal
employees that were with them
almost their entire stay in Mur
phy, and to the friends and
neighbors whose kindnesses
will be remembered.
Mr. and Mrs. Burgess took
a deep interest in the growth
and progress of Murphy and
will continue to follow this trend
with best wishes for the whole
community.
The new plant is located in
the T uckaseegee Valley between
Cullowhee and Cashiers.
