Welcoming Christmas With Light Old Custom In olden days, the Yule log and candles made Christina: welcome with bright light. With the coming of the electric light bulb, Christmas light ing moved outside the home onto yards and home exter iors. Today, more and morepeo ple are welcoming Christmas with light, both inside and out side the home. Some enter community or garden club projects, following a set theme. And some decorate with light for the Christmas season through sheer exuber ance of the holiday spirit. Whatever your reason for using Christmas lighting, you'll find a wealth of items to use for it right at home. Funnels, bits of screen wire, empty flower pots, bare branches, heavy cardboard- - all can be transformed into s charming Christmas decorat ions with a bit of imagination and ingenuity. Scraps of screen wire, for instance, can be fashioned into an attractive holly spray for your front door. First, you'll cut, free hand, big holly leaves from the screen wire, then run a piece of florist wire through the center to make the leaf vein and to secure the leaves to the main branch. This branch can be a piece of aluminum clothesline or a cut wire coat hanger, bent in to a crude S-shape. When you've fastened your leaves to the main branch, you'll spray the whole deco ration with gold paint, then attach your smallest red Christmas ornaments (big red beads may be used) along the main branch. Next step is to carefully conceal and adjust a gold 150 - watt PAR spot lamp to light the entire doorway. Another attractive arrange ment for the door can be made from small, empty flower pots, pine branches, and Christmas ribbon. The flower pots , painted either silver or gold and hung upside down, nestle into the greenery (ar ranged in a big spray and tied with Christmas ribbon) as Christmas bells. To fur nish lighting inside the bells, you'll use pin-type candelabra sockets and small Christmas tree bulbs. In all of your arrangements, lighting will furnish the magic touch. In using lighting, though, a word of caution is in order. All cords used must be in good condition, and for out B-O-A-R BONUS NOW!
