Feb. 11, 1965 Murphy HD Club Meets With Mrs. Alverson MURPHY- The Murphy Home Demonstration Club met on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 20, In the home of Mrs. C.L. Alverson. Miss Thelma Wheeler open ed the meeting in the absence of the president, Mrs. Ruby Hill. New Year books were dis tributed and requests for workshops for the year was made. Announcements of events coming up were made with special note of the County Council Home Demonstration meeting on January 28 and District Planning meeting on February 3 at the home of Miss Kate Hayes. At this time Clay and Graham Coun ties will be represented to plan the spring district meet ing to be held in Robbins ville this year. The demonstration on "Trends in House Furnish ings for 1965" was given by Miss Wheeler, Home Econo mics agent. An announcement of West ern District Crafts Camp to be held at Lake Junaluska May 18-20 was made and the club was requested to .send one or more delegates. W.tck MURPHY- Miss Joyce Lee Sneed and David Vance Welch were united in marriage Sun day, February 7, at 2:00 p. m. in the Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Glen D. Rhodes, pastor, conducting the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilburn Quinton Sneed of Murphy. Mr. Welch is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel David Welch of Waynesville, N. C. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a for mal length gown of silk or ganza and Alencon lace over taffeta. Her finger tip veil was os silk illusion attach ed to a crown encrusted with seed pearls and sequins. She carried a white lace covered Bible topped with a cascade arrangement of white carn ations. David Hensley of Lincoln ton, N. C. was pianist. Mrs. Lawrence Keever ser ved as her sister's matron of honor. She wore a sky-blue brocade gown with matching headpiece and carried a bou quet of pink roses. Ann Welch and Martin Long, cousins of the bridegroom, were flower girl and ring bearer. Brice Long, cousin of the bridegroom, served as best man. Ushers included Frank Saunders, Waynesville, Zane Metcalf, Waynesville, and Lawrence Keever, of Lincoln ton, N. C. Mrs. Sneed chose a two piece blue wool suit with mat ching accessories for her daughter's wedding. The groom's mother wore a green wool suit with matching acc essories. Both mothers had corsages of white carnations. The bride's costume for her wedding trip was a white wool suit, matching accessories, and flowers from her bridal bouquet. Mrs. Welch attended West ern Carolina College and has been employed at the U. S. Forest Service office in Mur phy. Mr. Welch is a graduate of Western Carolina College and plans to be employed at Du pont Company in Nashville, Tennessee, where the couple will make their home. On Saturday evening foll owing rehearsal, a cake cut ting was given by the bride's parents in their home. Those assisting were Mrs. Gene Sneed, Mrs. Lawrence Kee ver, Mrs. Brice Long, and Miss Donna McFarland. This is the annual cookie sale that more than 5,000 Girl Scouts in the 16 Western North Carolina counties com prising the Pisgah Girl Scout Council participate in each year. Tewnson Funeral Home 837-2109 LEYMAN L. THOMPSON MURPHY - Ley-man L. Thompson, 71, of Marble, Rt. 1, died Saturday, January 30, while returning home from shopping. Death was attri buted to natural causes by County Coroner J. C. Town son, He was a native of Georgia, and had lived in Cherokee County for more than 50 years. Surviving are several nieces and hephews. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Mathie Rowland officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Clinton Bettis, James andHaroldCof fey, Ernest Raxter, Max Ladd and Robert L. Huskins. Townson Funeral Home was in charge. District One Meets With Miss Kate Hayes MURPHY- Didtrict One Planning meeting was held on Wednesday, February 3, in the home of Miss Kate Hayes with members from Cherokee, Clay and Graham Counties present. The meeting opened with prayer. Mrs. Hugh Beasley president of Graham County, presided. Minutes were read and app roved. The spring meeting date was agreed to be held at Thunderbird Motel inRobb insviUe, April 28. Different committees were appointed and the speaker discussed and the topic for the meeting. Alter the meeting the hos tess served refreshments to the thirteen members present and one visitor. G. D. FARLEY ROBBINSVILLE - G. D. Farley, 87, of Robbinsville died in an Andrews Hospital Friday, February 5, after a short illness. He was a native of Gra- ; ham County, a son of the late Clate and Cynthia Carringer F arley, one of Graham Coun ty's old families. Surviving are a step-son, floyd Mills aps, of Robbins ville; two sisters, Mrs. Cor dia Freeman of Andrews and Mrs. Josa Carver of Cortez, Colo.; a number of nieces and nephews. Services were held at 2 p. m. Sunday in the chapel of Townson Funeral, Robbin sville. The Rev. Donald Colvard and the Rev. Clarence Adams officiated and burial was in ' Lone Oak Cemetery.
