Ligertwood, Coleman Wedding Planned Mr. Frank Ligertwood of Sanford, N. C. announced the engagement of his daughter, Sylvia Alice, to Harold L. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bailey B. Coleman, Route 3, Murphy, N. C. A June wedding is planned. Coort of Awards Held For Girl Scoot Troop 211 MURPHY- Court of Awards for Girl Scout Troop 211 was held Tuesday, April 27, at the F irst Baptist Church. The Brownie girls gradua ting from Brownie Troop to Junior Troop received the Girl Scout Pins. Leaders of the Scout T roop No. 211 is Mrs. Herman Ed wards and assistant to the leaders are, Mrs. W. A. Sin gleton, Mrs. Steve A. Dock ery and Mrs. Max Payne. Brownie leader, Mrs. Boy ce Stiles and assistants are Mrs. James Hughes, Mrs. Wayne HollandandMrs.John Smart. -M Mrs. F. L. Asbury return ed home Thursday after spending the winter with re latives in St. Petersburg J la. -M Mrs. J. H. Wilson, Sr., has returned home after spending the winter with her daughter at Lookout Mountain, Tenn. -M Mrs. Bertha Bates has re turned home after spending the past ten days with relat ives in Jacksonville, Fla. -M Mrs. Leila Dickey left last Friday for Marietta, Ga., to visit her daughter, Mrs. Vir ginia Towns on and son, Rich ard. Murphey Chapter DAR will meet Monday evening, May 17, at 8 p.m., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Harshaw. The date has been changed from the regular meeting night. May 10 in order that the officers may attend a workshop in Asheville on May 10. -M Mr. and Mrs. James Moore and children of Chattanooga, Tennessee were guests over the week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barnett. -M The Rev. W. F. Elliott who has been a patient in a nur sing home in Charlotte spent Sunday and Monday at home. He was accompanied by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Elliott. 4 H Picnic Big Success MURPHY - The Cherokee County 4-H Clubs held* picnic on April 24. The picnic was held at Cherokee Lake Rec reation Area in the HI was see Dam Community. The following clubs were represented at the picnic: Bell view. Cane Creek, Sham rock Club, Unaka, Violet, Ranger, Murphy and Wolf Creek. There were approx lmatley 120 4-H'ers, parents sponsors, and leaders present at the picnic. Each club did a good job making the picnic a success by preparing good food and recreation for the group. We would like to especially commend the parents on a job well done. Also, we would like to express our appreciation to everyone who had a part in making the picnic a success , says Wendell Hedden, Assis tant Agricultural Extension Agent. -M Mr. and Mrs. K. D. Murphy B&PW Hosts District 1 Meeting MURPHY - The Murphy Business and Professional Worn ens Club was hostess to the Annual District-1 Meet ing of the North Carolina Fed eration of Business and Pro fessional Women, Sunday .May 2, at the High School Lunch room. Officers attending were: Mrs. Bert Tyson, N. C. State President; Mrs. Grace Fol ger, N. C. State President Elect; Mrs. Grace Stamey, State Chairman of World Affairs, and Dr. Mary Wayte, District Director. The Sylva Club won the Gavel for having the great est percentage present. After dinner and recognition of special guests, a business meeting was held.
