BAG Dear Doris Advice from Doris Clark An Incriminating Note DEAR DORIS - The other day I was emptying out my hus band's pockets and found a note from someone saying how much she loved him, and that it was a week since he had kissed her. and an eternity since he made love to her 1 still can't believe it. I know this woman's writing and she and her husband are supposed to be our best friends I've always wanted to write a story to tell other women how to treat their husbands so as to have a happy marriage like mine, because I felt we had something special The woman denies the note My husband says he didn't know it was in his pocket. If he has been unfaithful I could forgive him, but how can I face these neighbors and act the same as before' Hopeless Mess DEAR HOPELESS ? You fail to say whether your husband admits anything, and whether he is sorry I'd guess that his indiscretion, if there was one, happened on some friendly oc casion after one drink ton many Unless you want to press for a reluctant confession, you'll have to assume this, and go on from there Take a new look at this "something special'' you have between you and find out wheth er it can be improved Obvious ly he wants to stay married to you. Nothing stands still; love can grow and companionship achieve a new high. Then your neighbor's wife, or any other woman, will eome to sec that there is no coming betweeen you DEAR DORIS ? My dear wife passed away two years ago Old friends take pity on me sometimes and ask me out to dinner. 1 go to church. But it seems to me I ought to be able to pay back hospitality My wife was very good at entertaining, but I haven't a clue. Could you suggest some easy thing I could get ready, if I have a couple of friends drop in Garden Club Meet Is Well Attended Annual meeting of District 1, Garden Club of N. C. held in Canton, Tuesday, October 26 was attended by 131 rep resentatives from 32 garden clubs in Western North Car olina. Annual year book awards went to the following clubs: Permanent type, 1st prize to Franklin Garden Club, 2nd prize to High Hopes Garden Club, Franklin, 3rd prize to Land of Sky Garden Club, Hendersonville, and Ashe ville Garden Club; Hand made type, 1st prize, Waynesville Garden Club of Waynesville; 2nd prize to Gay Blades Gar den Club, Tryon, 3rd prize to Hoe and Hope Garden Club of Fletcher; Printed year book awards, 1st prize Keniworth Garden Club, Asheville, and 2nd prize to Tryon Garden Club, Tryon. Reports given by District Chairmen and Club Presidents of the 32 clubs represented gave an indication of the ex cellent work being done by garden clubs from local level to Garden Club of N. C., to National Council of Garden Clubs. Outstanding guests were Miss Louise Ballard of Way nesville, Assistant Treasurer of National Council; Mrs. W.C. Landolina, Sr., of Clemmons, President of Garden Clubs of N. C., Mrs. W. B. Blackburn of Greensboro, 1st V.P., and Mrs. L. B. Mills of Lauren burg, 3rd V.P. Mrs. Landolina reported the progress being made by Garden Club of N. C. Inc., in all phases of garden club work including the progress of Jun ior and High School gardeners, civic improvements, scholar ships to deserving young peo ple and aid to Korean child ren. Mrs. Edward L. Lynn, Dis trict Director gave a report on the Nation Council of Gar den Clubs, convention, held in Portland, Oregon, and stated that the 1966 convention would be held in New Orleans. Mrs. Lynn was elected delegate in an afternoon or evening? I'm '5 Pensioner DEAR PENSIONER ? A kindred spirit of yours, George by name, sent us a recipe with variations, which is just the ticket I'm sending you a copy of "George's Cheese Bites." which is a page of good ideas for using cheese, made up into Cheese Savoury Spread (Note to Readers: Anyone may have this leaflet by sending in ten cents and a stamped, self addressed envelope.) Confidential To Granny ? It is hard to lose a member of the family But remember, this lit tle granddaughter had a bad time of it with your son-in-law. She undoubtedly needs special care and treatment These very special foster parents will give her the love and care she needs, working closely with a trained child care worker. Together they will study her and help her gain in physical and mental health. Next time you are in town, go to the agency and talk to the social worker who is looking after Rita She will be glad of your interest and will be able to explain things better personally. DEAR DORIS ? Although our boy of nine has everything a child could want, he seems un happy We all wait on him, and never demand too much of him. He is not a stupid boy, but he has no self-confidence at all. Stumped DEAR STUMPED - Has he anv reason to think well of him self? Giving him everything, waiting on him ? even adults react badly to such excesses. Unless he is challenged to manage some new hurdles on his own. he is only half living. He simply must experience the deep inner satisfaction of doing a job well. Work is a blessing, not a curse, and the part work plays in the well-being of all of us simply can't be overestimated. Give him something hard to do ? and encouragement to do it. WMtlV IMWH SVIHICVW from District I to the 1966 convention. Mrs. Edward Br umby was elected delegate to the Regional meeting in 1966. In addition to the exhibits on conservation and a nit litter, an outstanding Thanks giving table arrangement was done by Mrs. J. A. Barrett.
