" . . BUT GOD CAN" by
Robert V. Ozment, Fleming H.
Re veil Company, 126 pages,
(2. SO.
Robert V. Ozment is " a
Doctor of Philosophy with the
common touch," writes Dr.
Charles L. Allen in his Intro
duction to this inspiration vol
ume. No description could
more adequately epitomize the
highly effective ministry of
this young man.
Widely read as a religious
columnist for The Atlanta
Constitution and some eight
een Georgia weeklies, he is
constantly bringing hope and
encouragement to thousands.
He is die pastor of the St.
James Methodist Church of
Atlanta. This was the first of
his three books.
With poignant perception
and lucidity, the author deals
with eight important areas:
temptation, burdens, trouble,
death, grid, prayer, hope and
faith. These are areas which
are inextrically enmeshed in
our daily lives. The author
writes, temptation is a tra
veling companion of every
person who walks down the
corridor of life. It has no re
gard for customs, race, or
heritage. It cuddles up to the
rich or the poor. Wherever you
find human life, you may be
sure temptation is near.
In writing, style is excee
dingly important. Dr. Ozment
has the unusual gift of rapidly
communicating with the rea
der. His outline in each of the
chapters is readily dis
cernible, with the main points
numbered. The development of
his chapters is superb.
Illustrations are artisti
cally used to augment what he
is saying. Jesus, the Great
teacher, you will remember,
used down-to-earth stories.
This was no accident. The peo
ple understood what He was
saying. Rare is the man today,
who can take a profound truth
and express it in such living
language, as did the Master.
One has only to read this
helpful book to realize that its
author has such unique ability.
Bibically founded, the truths
enunciated in this volume are
relevant to our lives. In the
Introduction, Dr. Allen writes,
"As one sits under theminis
try of Dr . Ozment, he is
moved to say. 'He is always
preaching tome."'Directed at
all who are caught up in the
struggles of life, the author
points the way to Christian
faith. "The absence of faith,"
he asserts," is an open invi
tation to fear, anxiety and
owrry."
Dr. Ozment's interpretation
of great Christian truths briqg
hope and encouragement to
confused lives. Our problems
today are perplexing and nu
merous. For many, the future
seems hopeless and dreary.
This volume challenges us
with the hopefulness of the
Christian faith to meet our
problems . " . . . this book
provides a penetrating new
portrait of Christian peach and
assurance . . convicting testi
mony that from one's blunders
and broken dreams can be
fashioned life that is filled with
holy adventure and noble pur
pose."
