Leatherwood For District Judge Robert Leatherwood, ID, attorney of Bryson City, is seeking the Democratic Nomination in the coming May Primary for one of the District Judgeships newly created for the 30th Judicial District. Mr. Leatherwood is a former Legislator from Swain County. While serving in the House of Representatives he became well known for his outstanding interest in Western North Carolina and its people. He was a member of thw Public Utilities Committee and par ticipated in revising and rewriting the North Carolina Public Utilities Laws. He served as Chairman on the Institutions for the Blind, and received a citation for his progressive active support on their behalf. Mr. Leatherwood is die son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leather wood of Bryson City. The Leatherwoods are members of the Haywood and Cherokee Counties Leatherwood family, die family having moved to Bun combe County (now Haywood County) in 1800, locating on Jon athan's Creek just below present Dell wood. After graduating from Swain County High School, Mr. Leather wood entered the military service. As a member of the famed 82nd Airborne Division he served as a Paratrooper in Italy and later participated in the invasion of France. After being wounded in action in France, he entered Wake Forest College, graduating in 1948, with a B. S. degree in Pol itical Science While doing his under graduate study he was a member of the Veterans Club, Pre-Law Society, Young Democ ratic Club and member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity. After receiving his degree from Wake Forest College he entered Wake Forest School of Law receiving his L. L. D. degree in Law in 19SL He was admitted to die Bar and has been actively engaged in the practice of Law inSwain County in both State and Federal Courts since 1952. Since returning to Swain County he has been an active civic and political leader. He has served as President of the Swain County Caamber of Commerce and is now serving his 6th term as Secretary of the Swaim County Democratic Executive Committee. Hehasalsobeen President and Vice President of the 30th Judicial District Bar and is a member of the Local and N. c. State Bar. He is now County Attorney of Swain. He is Vise a member of the Executive Committee of die Swain County Hospital which is undertaking a campaign to expand its facilities. Ml Leatherwood is married to the former Meredity Shook. Harshaw e returned from a visit to i _latives and friends in Rich mond, Va Miss Sherry Lovingood Is Bride Of Wayne Henry Chastain MURPHY - Miss Sherry Lov ingood and Wayne Henry Chas taln were married Saturday, April 23, at 8:00 p.m. in a candlelight ceremony in Grape Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Homer Wilson using the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alien Burton Lov ingood of Murphy and the bride groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Boyd Chastaln Sr. of Rt. 2, Murphy. Given in marriage by her fa ther the bride was attired In a gown of Alencon lace over peau de sole, fashioned with a fitted bodice, long sleeves point over the wrist, and a bell skirt ex tending into a chapel train. A fingertip veil of illusion falling from a crown of seed pearls and carried a lace covered Bible topped with a white orchid and stephanads. Miss Vivian Sneed of Murphy was Maid of Honor. She was att ired in a sheath gown of mint green lace. For her headpiece a circular veil of net attached to a cornet and carried a bou quet of pink roses. Bridesmaids Included Miss Glenda Dockery and Miss Linda Cornwell of Murphy. They were attired in gowns of mint green lace like that of the honor attendant fash ioned in A -line and carried bou quets of long stemmed pink roses. John Boyd Chastaln,Jr., bro ther of the groom, served as best man. Usher-groomsmen were William Benjamin Chas taln, brother of the groom and Dennis L. Puett, of Atlanta,Ga. Mrs. Tony Hembree of Mur phy was pianist. The mother of the bride chose a pink lace dress, white access ories and wore a corsage of white carnations. The bride groom's mother wore a blue crepe dress and matching acc essories and a corsage of white carnations. For her wedding trip to eas tern North Carolina the bride chose a pinddotted-swlss dress and a corsage from her bridal bouquet. The bride is a graduate of Murphy High School. She is radiologic technology student at Grady Memorial Hospital inAt lanta, Ga., and will graduate July 1st. The bridegroom is a graduate of Murphy High School and is serving In theU.S.Army stationed at Fort Bragg. N. C. The couple will reside at 113 Casey Drive in Marietta, Ga. The bride's parents were hostess at a reception in their home immediately following the ceremony.
