ITEM: When buying area
or accent ruga, check the under
neath as well as the top of the
rug. These small size floor
coverings need Arm anchoring.
If the rug is washable, the
backing should also be wash
able. A backing of supple, fine
celled urethane (plastic foam)
is both safe and washable.
ITEM: Pine tip blight is a
fungus disease that disfigures
Scotch, red, Austrian and
mugho pine and balsam fir.
The casual organism grows
through the needles and de
stroys twig tissues. By mid
summer tips of branches begin
dying. Tree experts recommend
spraying of pine buds as they
open, applying a copper fungi
cide. If spring is wet, a second
application 10 days later and
a third at equal interval may
be necessary. Spray when the
new candles of growth are pale
green.
ITEM: You can walk at
least four miles and spend 25
hours of your time during one
year in making iust one bed by
the common dash-a-around
method. Why not learn to
make one side completely, then
the other side? You'll find you
can cut your time and effort
used in bedmaking.
? ? ?
ITEM: Scrub the undersides
of scatter rugs occasionally
with heavy suds to remove
dust and wax. Only clean back
ing can grip the floor securely.

Now you can get a full-sized Chrysler Newport priced
just a few dollars a month more than you'd spend on the
most popular smaller cars, comparably equipped. Which
means automatic transmission, power steering, power
brakes, radio, heater, and a big V-8. And when we say
a few dollars a month more, we mean just that!

Federal Employees
In N. C. Urged To
Buy Savings Bonds
The intensive campaign be
ing conducted this month to
enlist Federal employees n
the Stste of North Caroline
in the Savings Bond Program
is pert often over-ell effort
to get Americans to part
icipate more fully in their
country' alt airs, Sum Sav

P. Johnson said today.
That idea, Mr. Johnson
suted, was suggested by
Vice President Hubert Hum

the Washington kick-off rally
of the 25th Anniversary Sav

directed by Postmaster Gen
eral Lawrence F. 0*Brcen,
Chairman of the Interdepart

Bonds Division of the U.S.
Treasury Department.
Mr. Johnson quoted Mr.
Humphrey as follows:
"Savings Bonds have a un
ique place in the history of
our contry. People all over
this land feel a little closer
to their Government when
they have a bond that has the
seal of the United States Gov
ernment upon it. It is more th
an a document and more than
a piece of paper. It is a
commitment on the p art of
the citizen to his Government
to this democracy, to the pur
poses Jof the this nation, snd
to its present end its future.
It's the wisest investment thst
anyone ever mode. And when
we ask one another to share
t**
In this program, we are really
asking one another to not only
d?, better for our country, but
to do better for ourselves."
Mr. Johnson said by the
end of May every Federal

the Nation will have been cor
