Cherokee County Extension News On July 4, the Cherokee County 4-H Clubs left Cher okee county with sixteen 4-Her's to spend a week at 4-H camp Swaimanoa. The 4-Her's a tuning were John ny Mason. Joye Mason, Peggy McMillan and Wayne McMillan of the Unaka 4-H Club; Roy Wells of the Murphy4-H Club; David Alexander of die Tomotla Club; David Hughes of the Cane Creek Club; Deb bie Clayton, Sandy Ledford, Paul Alan Ledford, Sammy Roberts, Randy Barnett, and Mike Mauney of thePeachtree Club; Terry Sandidge and Jimmy Lovingood of the Marble Club; and Linda McRae of the White Church Club. We were very fortunate in attending 4-H camp at Swan nanoa. The 4-Her's had the opportunity of participating with 4-Her's from Clay, Swain, Jackson and Haywood counties. They participated in activites such as handicraft, swimming, recreation, nature study and electricity. Cherokee county was well represented in athletic completition, tal ent show and vesper programs. In the swimming competitor Cherokee County took honors: David Alexander won first place in the foll owing three events-under water swim, big splash, and comic dive. Sandy Ledford placed third in distance swim and was selected as best cam per in her group and won the smile contest. Linda McRae was elected girl captain in Heart group and Roy Wells was elected boy captain In Heart group. Linda was on the program for the Friday night banquet and gave the welcome speech. Mike Mauney took first place in Boys dis tance swim and first place In elementary back stroke. Also to win the best camper award was Randy Barnett. 4-H Club week is July 25 29 and if there are any 4-Her's interested in att ending should let their com munity 4-H dub Leader know; Registration cards mist be sent in to Dan F. Holler, 4-H Specialist before July 15. There will be special interest period and special classes. We are looking forward to a good week at club week. The Flower Arrangement Instructor is a well-known au thority in many spheres of CreativeDesign, induing the Japanese. Mrs. Robert E. Creighton of Chattanooga, Tenn. will indude in her lectures, Period, free form, Abstrad Arranging, Color Review and judging ethics and procedures. She will project her ideas by use of her own arrangements in the above styles and various Japanese schools for which she is wide ly known. Having Mrs. Creigh ton as part of this advanced course will have great appeal for judges, students and other artists. A special feature of this school will be the exhibition of roses to be furnished by Jackson and Perkins of New ark , New York.
