The bouse features the kind of gracious, easy living you find in the most expensive home, the engineers say. Here are four reasons why the en gineers like the bouse; First, it is simple and easy to construct A person can use 'post-and-girt constru ction?the do-it-yourself bui lding method that provides good, long -lasting housing at low cost. Second, the costs are low. A person can build the forms and foundation with low -cost materials such as post, beams and girts. These mat erials, along with the do-it yourself method, will cut labor cost by half and total cost by one- fourth. If a person builds the entire structure with his Land Bank Serves Farm Credit Needs "The Federal Land Bank Association of Asheville con tinues to serve the sound, constructive and productive long-term credit needs of far mers in this area during the most unfavorable monetary situation in its 50-year his tory," according to Edward C. Sumner, manager of the association. "The cost of money from the sale of bonds to the in vesting public, the source of loan funds for the Land Bank System, reached the highest point in the history of the system during 1967," ex plained Sumner. In setting an all-time high record in credit service to farmers in 1907, the Ashe ville Association extended credit in the amount of $1, 700,000 and bad over 1,000 loans to farmers, growers, and ranchers in excess of $10,000,000 at the end of the year, Sumner said. The asso ciation paid $17,012 in divi dends to its firmer-members during the year anH this added to dividends in previous years amounts to $84,383. The association is one of 46 farmer-owned Land Bank associations which make and served Land Bank loans (or The Federal Land Bank of Columbia in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida-the four states served by the bank. R. A. Darr, president of the Columbia bank, reported that the bank now has over 38.000 loans to farmers, gro wers, ana ranchers in the four state district in the amount of more than $473 million. The Asheville Association served farmers in twelve Western counties from the office located in Asheville. Officers and directors of the association include W. Mack Rogers of Leicester, president; S. R. Cathey of Fletcher, vice president, Alex Crowell of Enka, director, Max Waldroup of Hayesville, director; Edward C. Sumner, manager; Jake Grigg, assis tant manager and Charles Robinson, fieldman. own labor, the house costs should be reduced by about half. Third, durable materials are recommended. A person should use pressure- treated timber. Preserved wood pro ducts increase the life of mat erials without reducing the strength. Wall panels, trusses and floor systems were load tested to prove strength and durability. Fourth, the house features a unique central beating sys tem. A person can use any type of heater- -wood, coal, gas or oil-fired. A tan draws warm air from a centrally located intake near the ceiling and delivers it into the crawl space beneath the floor. This warm air gives a warm floor and a warm wall. This type of heating produces even temperatures for draft-free comfort.
