Southern General Manager Is Frequent
Visitor At The Cherokee Plant
Charles S. Johnson
Charles S. Jolinson, General
Manager of American Thread's
Southen Plants, is a frequent
visitor at the Cherokee Plant
and has kept his finger on the
pulse of progress and oper
ations ever since ground was
broken at the plant site in the
spring of 1966. He played a j
part in planning the architec
ture, machinery layout, and
other details which make this
new plant a conversation piece j
in the textile field.
He has both the welfare of
the employee and the Company
at heart and is gratified by
the cooperation of the Cherokee
County residents. He says,
"We gave a lot of thought to
the location of this plant before
making a final decision and we
feel that we made a wise choice
in selecting Marble. We are
pleased with the people and are
glad that we chose Cherokee
County for the latest and finest j
addition to our American
Thread family of southern op
erations."
The General Manager of the
Southern Plants joined The Am
erican Thread Company's
Willim antic, Connecticut Plant
in 1939 and, with the exception
of military leave as a captain
in the Air Force during World
War II, has been with the Com

and the management level and
was Assistant General Manager
at the time of his transfer
to the Sevier, N. C. Plant in
October, 1962 when he was
named as Sevier's Plant Mana
ger. He was promoted to his
present position as General
Manager of Southern Plants May
1, 1965. He is in charge of
Sevier, Rosman, and Marble
Plants in North Carolina; the
Hampshire, Hawthorn, and Rug
Unit which comprise the Clover,
South Carolina Plants, and the
plant at Tallapoosa, Georgia.
The Sevier Plant is a finishing

niques, organization, and op
erating policies and practices,
as well as expansion of oper
ations.

interest in civic and community
affairs. He is a member of
First Methodist Church of Mar

and is an ardent supporter for
better schools, improved li

which result in community be

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have
