Lee Flemming, to Richard M. Massey, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wallace Massey of Waynesville.
Miss Flemming is presently employed with Cato's
of Charlotte, and Massey is assistant manager at
Sherman William's in Waynesville.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hiclu of
Andrews, North Carolina,
announce the engagement of
their daughter. Miss Sandra
Lou I licks, to Ensign Paul
Ronald Gladden of Asheville,
North Carolina.
Miss Hicks is presently a
senior at Memorial Mission
Hospital School of Nursing in
Asheville and will graduate in
May of 1969.
Mr. Gladden, who is a 1968
graduate of Asheville-Biltmore
College where he received his
B. A. degree in psychology and
economics, was recently
commissioned as an ensign by
the Navy and Is presently
stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.
A February wedding to be
held in Asheville, North
Carolina is being planned.

holidays here with relatives.
Mr. Bob Austin of Biltmore,
N. C., spent the weekend in
Murphy.
Miss Hattie Palmer has
joined the office force of the
Scout and will have charge of
this column in the future. Miss
Sarah Cook has been editing
this column in the past and has
rendered excellent service for
which we take this opportunity
of expressing our appreciation.
Miss Palmer, besides having
charge of this column, will also
act as circulation manager, and
assist generally with the office
work. She worked for the
Scout when it was edited by
Mr. Mercer, some ten or twelve
years ago, and is familiary with
the general routine work of a
county weekly newspaper.
Messrs. Herbert McCall and
H. A Mattox returned home
last Friday from Chapel HilL
Mr. Bait Cope has returned
home from Kennewick, Wash.,
where he has been visiting his
uncle, J. C. Buchanan.

WHY I AM A BOY SCOUT
I am a Boy Scout because
you have all kinds of good
times such as camping, hiking,
learning to cook, and how to
build an improvised shelter,
etc. When we have a meeting
we take exercise, drill, play
games, etc. You are taught to
be a clean minded and
clean-bodied citizen. You are
supposed to do a good tum
each day. Basketball, football
and baseball teams are
organized and any boy likes to
play ball.

married December the 20th in
Valieytown Baptist Church by
the Rev. Homer Wilson.
She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Sylvester Woody of
Andrews, and he is the son of

Andrews.
The bride was given in
marriage by her brother, Mr.

length white brocade satin
gown, the veil attached to a
crown of lace and pearls. She

The bridesmaids wore velvet

Mt. View Church following the
ceremony by the bride's sister
and Mis. Kenneth Stover and
Miss Diane Stanley.
The groom is in the Air
Force and ia stationed in the

The American Legion
Auxiliary met Friday evening,
January 17 in the home of Mrs.
John Bayless.
Mrs. Frances Johnson,
president presided over the
business, at which time plans
were made for the district
meeting to be held in Murphy
