Goldfinch became the bride of
Mr. Joseph Wendell Dyer, Jr.,
at the Jeokia's Memorial
United Methodist Church in
Raleigh at 4:00 p.m. March
2029.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mr*. Albert Eugene
Goldfinch Sr., of RAleigh and
the bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wendell
Dyer, Sr., of Fontana Dam.
The bride attended Wheaton
College in Wheaton, 01,
Meredith College in Raleigh
and is presently a junior at
North Carolina State
University. Mr. Dyer, a
graduate of Naval Aviation
Officer Candidate School, is a
senior at N.C. State University.
After a honeymoon in the
coastal area of North and
South Carolina, the couple will
reside at 501 Tartan Circle in
Raleigh.
OES Elects
Officers
A special meeting of Martha
Chapter No. 246 Order of
Eastern Star was held on
Friday evening March 28 in the
Masonic Hall for the
installation of officers for the
ensuing year.
Installing officers were
Joyce Allen, Edith Allen,
Marshal, Bessie Ruth Evans,
Chaplain and Annie Lee Foard,
organist.
The following officers were

Mrs. Hendrix Is Nominated
"Mother Ot The Year''
Mrs. Clarence Hendrix has
been chosen as a district
nominee for the selection of
the State Mother of the Year
for 1969. Announcement of
the name of the State Mother
of the Year will be made at an
awards luncheon in Raleigh on
April 10. Selection of the State
Mother of the Year is under a
special committee of the State
Mothers' Association.
The mother selected must
exhibit evidence that si ? a
successful mother. She J;
embody those traits highly
regarded in mothers: courage,
cheerfulness, patience,
affection, kindness,
understanding, and
homemaking ability. She must
also have a sense of
responsibility in civic affairs
and be active in service for
public benefit. It is important
that the Mother of the Year be
an active member of a religious
body and exemplifies in her
life and conduct the precepts
of the Golden Rule.
?Mrs. Hendrix was placed in
nomination by the Cherokee

County Extension
Homemakers Council. She has
been active in Home
Demonstration and Extension
Homemakers work for more
than twenty-five years and has
also worked with 4-H.
Currently she is teaching craft
classes through Tri-County
Technical Institute. All of her
life Mrs. Hendrix has een
involved in bringing pleasure
and knowledge to others. She
attributes much of the
knowledge she has helped
others with to her years of
Home Demonstration work.
Mr. and Mrs. Hendrix are
parents of three children:
Mildred Hendrix Stewart of
Fort Worth, Texas and Edwin
and David Hendrix both of
Cherokee County. They have
presented the Hendrix' with a
total of seven grandchildren.

April Kite Is Planned
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard G. Clark of Cottage Grove,
Oregon, announce the engagement of their daughter,
Stella Mae, to Therman A. Seevers, Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Therman A. Seevers, Sr. of Oakland, Oregon.
Miss Clark graduated from high school in Eureka,
Calif., and is presently employed in Cottage Grove.
Mr. Seevers has recently returned from Vietnam
where he was with the special forces for a year. He is
now employed in Roseburg.
Mr. Clark is a native of Cherokee County and lived
on Davis Creek.
An April wedding is planned.
Miss Smith Peforms
With Country Dancers'
Mary Ellen Smith, a senior
at Berea College and a member
of the well-known Berea
Country Dancers accompanied
15 other members of the
college dance group to
Annsted, West Virginia March
28 and 29.
There the group performed
and participated in a workshop
for West Virginia 4-H clubs.
The Country Dancers, who
specialize in mountain dances,
also provide their own live
music with guitar, piano,
violin, and accordion, to make
the dances as authenic as
possible.
The dancers were
well-received and everyone had
a lively time. Miss Smith is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert
G. Smith of Brasstown.
