Contest
As a culminating activity for
a study of prehistoric life on
Earth, the three seventh grade
science classes at Murphy
Elementary School are
involved in a contest with each
other.
The object of the contest is
to see which class can make the
best bullet^ board and model
display depicting prehistoric
life. The students were allowed
one week in which to do these
projects.
A great amount of research
had to be done by the students
to find the correct colors,
shapes, nrf periods in which
certain animals lived. A vast
amount of work has also gone
into the actual building of the
display models and the bulletin
boards.
Seventh grade teachers are:
Mrs. Jane Reynolds, Mr. MeWin
Payne and Mr. Marvin
Hampton.
SAM L. DAVIDSON, left, and his sister, Mrs. Mae
Davidson Brittain, were elected Worthy Patron and
Worthy Matron respectively of the Murphy Chapter No.
10 of the Order of the Eastern Star for 1969-70. (Scout

IRS NEWS
GREENSBORO,
N.C.-Divorced or separated
parents planning to claim a
child as a dependent on
Federal income tax returns can
avoid possible tax controversy
by carefully reading the
guidelines.
J. E. Wall, District Director
of Internal Revenue for North
Carolina, said the guidelines
should especially be referred to
in cases where divorced or
separated parents claim the
same child as a dependent.
Generally, the parent with
custody of the child for the
greater part of the year is
entitled to the dependency
deduction. There are
exemptions to this rule,
depending on the terms of the
decree and the amount
contributed to the child's
support by the parent who
does not have custody.
