WALT DISNEY DOUBLE DISNEY FUN! SOCIAL SECURITY Questions & Answers By Jack Britt Field Representative Q. We're told there are people that ought to be drawing social security but aren't and maybe some of them are relatives or acquaintances of ours. Of course, if we understood better who all might be eligible we could advise them to see the Social Security office about filing their applications. A. If there's any real chance that they could be entitled to benefits, advise them to get in touch with our office or with one of our traveling representatives. Since you're not technically trained as Social Security specialists, you definitely should not try to "screen out" or eliminate potential applicants. But you can be very helpful by referring certain people to us. Particularly - and specifically - if you know any individuals in one or more of the following categories who are not getting monthly benefits, tell them to contact us promptly: A person not working who has reached age 62. An individual aged 62 and still working, but without high earnings. Anyone approaching age 65, even though still orking - if he or she has not signed up for Medicare or for a monthly social security check. A disabled person under age 65. A person disabled before age 31, even though previously denied disability benefits. (Less work is now required than under prior law.) Anyone who has been continuously disabled since before age 18 - if the parent whether father or mother is receiving benefits, or is deceased. A disabled widow, or dependent widower, between 50 or 60 years of age. A widow at age 60, or a dependent widower at age 62. A surviving dependent parent aged 62 or over. A child whose mother is deceased, even if the child was denied benefits under prior law. A child under age 18, or a full-time student between 18 and 22 - if either the mother or father is receiving benefits, or is deceased. An individual who was over 72 in 1968 or before, and is not getting any Federal, state or local pension or other benefits. And, finally, an unmarried "surviving divorced wife" aged 62 or older who was married to the worker for at least 20 years, and was receiving support from him. SUGGESTION: You may want to dip out the above portion of this column to show to others and to keep for future reference. Q. My husband had a very bad stroke last month, and his doctor says hell never be able to work again. When should he apply for his disability payments from Social Security? A. NOW. People who are severely disabled should file their claims as early as possible during the first four months of disability. This Aould give us the necessary time to process their claims and try to see that their first checks arrive aa soon as possible after the end of the 6-month waiting period. 3-DAY FROM THE NO. 1 TIRE COMPANY GOODYEAR LOW,WIDE 4-PIY NYLON CORD "SAFETY ALL-WEATHER r TIRE 7.00 x 13 tube less blackwall plus $1.94 Fed.
