Golden Egg
William Nelms, manager of
the Nelms Farm in Clay
County, found a bright yellow
egg one of his hens had
produced last week. Suspecting
a prank, Nelms broke open the
egg only to find It was real. So
far, he has been unable to
identify the hen that laid the
golden egg.

Four Square Gets Gran
Four Square Community
Action, Inc., hai received a
federal (rant of $68,321 from
the Office of Economic
Opportunity. The fund* will
support Four Square's
community programs in
Cherokee, Clay, Graham, and
Swain counties for the next six
months. ,
The bulk of the funds will
be used to assist the
development of low-income
community and neighborhood
organizations into self-help
groups which will take the
initiative in identifying poverty
problems and work toward
their solution.
The OEO grant also
provides funds for specific
technical assistance to
low-income families. Hie
Cooperative and Horticultural
program will provide technical
assistance for the development
of trellis tomato growing in the
four counties, and for the
organization of local
cooperatives which will
promote economic
development and income
improvement.
Funds are also provided for
a job developer who will
cooperate with local business
and industry in development
on-the-job training projects
under the MDTA (Manpower
Development Training Act) for
unemployed and
underemployed persons. He
will also assist the placement of
low-income and unskilled
persons into available jobs.
The OEO grant includes
funds for an Emergency
and Medical Services
to see all four counties. ^
