Charlotte Hight Confirms the Story--Sev- eral Hundred Dollars Found Near the Old Ice Factory. Henry Page is an industrious colored man who lives just North of the site or thfv Old 1iv Factory, near Allen -. (irain'.s Foundry. Charlotte Hight lives about one hundred yards smith of Page's home, and between the two houses is an obi building which -was par tially destroyed by fire, when the Ice Factory was burned down. The town colored people named above have fin in teresting sinry of quite a peculiar occur rence of Wednesday night: Henry Page was just nboui ready to reiiie when he was called upon to re spond to a call at the door. The visitor, according to Page, claimed to be none other than a convict recently released from the Slate farm, he sought informa tion concerning (he occupancy of houses in that neig'hbnrhnod, and finally came to the conclusion lhat the partially de stroyed house between the houses of Charlotte Hight and Henry Page was lie house which lie nought. The con ic! did no give his name to Page, but in a tew minutes relurneil nninff wnn hiui several, hundred dollars which he lainicd hud Itoon buried beneath the flooring of tho dilapidated building by himself Itefnre he was captured and sent to prison for manslaughter -and robbery ibont fifteen or eighteen years ago. The negroes in that section are greatly m tcri"tod in the find and have thronged iihout those who know the story. Inquiry was made to-day at the State penitentiary to ascertain the reliability or this information, and if is stated that recently a man answering' the descrip tion given was released from the farms. it is stilted elsewhere that the ex-con- vict was known to have come to Raleigh. Charlotte Hight and Henry Page be lieved the tory implicitly. The story is given for what it is worth. It is tlie chief topic now discussed by the dored people on the streets. HIS FAITH WAS WEAK. 1 1 is reported that in Eastern Wake county a innn hy the name of Spencc has been preaching sanctilication. and in order to carry out his jkiIiiIs he an nounced to his hearers that on last Sun day he would walk on water. Saturday night he went to a pond nnd drove iq some posts and laid some planks along nliont three inches under the water Sunday morning, by a sippointnicnt, s large crowd assembled to see the Wond erful feat. During the night some mean boys took out one. of the planks. After spending several minutes in prayer the sanctificatioiiMt proceeded to -walk With eyes fixed heavenward he slowly and deliberately walked in. Everything was still, and such remarks fu ''Ge, whiz! that jnau shorely am sanctified!' could lie heard from the eager crowd of onlookers. Suddenlj;. wlien about the middle of the pond, be came to the mins lug plank. Ker choog! under went the parson above his head in water, Th now thoroughly enraged crowd dispersed with very little faith in i-niiictitication.- Apcx News. EIGHT FEDERAL PRISONEIIS.
