Saturday Last Day For
Registration To Vote In
Road-School Bond Vote
On June Fourth the people of
North Carolina of voting age
will go to the polls to vote YES
or NO on the question of wheth
er to issue 200 niillion dollars
worth of road bonds and 25 mil
lion dollars worth of school
bonds. Here in Jones County
those voters who voted in the
last presidential election are still
eligible to vote in this bond issue
election.
No new registration is being
made for this vote and all voters
who have registered previously
to vote in the County, State and
United States elections are still
eligible to vote on June Fourth.
For the benefit of those Jones
County voters who are not now
registered the books in every
township will be open until Sun
down this coining Saturday. If
you want to vote on the bond is
sue and are not now registered
you must do so before sundown
Saturday.
Registrars in the various town
ships will take your registration
at their homes on weekdays and
will be at the regularly appoint
ed places all day Saturday.
Saturday May 28th is chal
lenge day. On that day every
qualified voter can challenge the
registration of any person whom
he feels is not a qualified voter.
Another new thing about this
bond issue election is that in or
der to vote against the issue a
voter must go to the polls and
cast his ballot. In the past a per
son could vote against a bond is
sue by simply registering and
then not voting.
A FEW OPENING REMARKS
This is the first issue of the Jones Journal. It has been sent
to all boxholders in Jones County in order that as near everyone
as possible may. see just what the county's new paper will look
like. We naturally hope that you like what you see and that
you will give the Journal your support now and for a long lime
in the future. Mrs. Rachel Cox of Pollocksville Route One is
Editor of the Journal and will be in charge of the Journal office
in the rear of the Branch Bank Building in Trenton. She is be
ing aided in gathering the news of the county by Mary Belle
Stott of Maysville, Mrs,. Cary Waters of Pollocksville. Mrs.
Carl Tyndall and Richard 'Tyndall of Comfort, and Mrs. George
Nick Nobles of Trenton. Our intention, naturally, is to make a
living income from this paper and its older sister, The Lenoir
County News. But while doing this we also intend to give Jones
County an interesting, informative and constructive newspaper
that it can be proud of from the begnming. We don't pretend'
to think that we shall please everyone, but we shall most as
suredly do our very best to tell the truth consistently. If you
have liked this first issue,, place your subscription now with one
of our solicitors or bring it to our office which shall be open

The recently *el up Jones
County Health Department is
busy completing the first pre
school clinics ever held in the
county. All children who are
to start to school next fall are
supposed to be examined in
these clinics. Clinics hare al
ready been held in the follow
ing schools: Trenton while.
Comfort while, Trenton Negro.
Pollocksville white. On Thurs
day the clinic will be held at
the Maysrille - Pollocksville
while school and at the Mays
ville Negro school and on May
26th children will be examined
at the Jones County Training
School. Every parent is urged
to have their six-year-old chil
dren out for these examina
tions.
Trenton High Team
Is Now Flying High
The Trenton High School base
ball team through the week-end
had set the impressive record of
winning seven out of the eight
games it has played this year.
The one game it has lost went to
Pink Hill on a close ,3-2 decision.
Parrish, who has pitched one no
hit game and one other shut-out,
shares the pitching honors with
Beamon and Heath. Players on
the team batting over .300 are
Beamon, Parker, Phillips, Kil
lingsworth, Charles and “Skeet”
Henderson and DeBruhl. Bea
mon is tops with a .400 average.
