Some Jones County farmers
are going to be Without a cotton
acreage allotment for the com
ing year in the face of a reduced
532-acre allotment for the en
tire county. Nelson Barker, sec
retary of the County’s Produc
tion and Marketing Administra
tion (AAA) says.
The reason for the reduction
from the 5,600 acres of 1942, he
says, is the failure of farmers
to plant cotton in the ensuing
years. He added, however, that
he did not believe the individual
acreage cuts would result in a
material pinch to any one per
son.
Secretary Barker said also
that Jones County farmers are
tardy in making their required
reports to the Triple»A office in
Trenton. He called attention to
the requirement for turning in
tobacco allotment sales cards
within 10 days after tbjp .com
pletion of the sale of the crop.
Only 25 per cent of the .cards
had beep brought into the office
by the end of the week.*

the programs. The county coun

JONES COUNTY TB
VICTIM IS ADMHTED
TO SANATORIUM
The emergency tuberculosis
patient of one month ago, who
received private hospitalization
under the sponsorship of the
Clen Newton Smith American
Legion Post, has been admitted
to the State Sanatorium, Wel
fare Superintendent F. J. Koonce
has reported. Mrs. Herbert Hill,
the patient, entered the Sana
torium on November 2nd after
a three weeks’ stay at the Cum
berland County Sanatorium in
Fayetteville.
When the plight of the victim
of the disease became known,
and it was found that there was
no place for her immediately at
the state institution, the Legion
Post sponsored aid for her. The
post, under the direction of
Commander Bruce Johnson, vol
unteered 10 per cent of the cost
of' the private hospitalization.
The response by others made up
ample funds for the three weeks’
care in the Cumberland County
Sanatorium.
