Fight Begun Against Newcastle Disease in ~lodu ,mbv wuurci-akMta IS now being made against' the di sease which in 1940 spread death among the poultry flocks of Jones County and threatened a serious setback to that division of the Jones County Agricultural Fair, Assistant County Agent George Wiggins has reported. That disease Is newcastle, which strikes the chickens In the nervous and respiratory systems, to bring death in many Instances. A killed-virus type of vaccine Is now being administered to the poultry flocks of the 4-H Club members throughout the county, Wiggins said, and It Is expected to considerably diminish the threat to the flocks this year. juui anomer poultry disease, caccidiosis, one which strikes the digestive systems of the affected chickens, has been discovered Wiggins reported .Immediate steps against it have been taken by giving the flocks medicated feed and drinking water. The di sease is not necessarily fatal,' the assistant agent pointed out, but it greatly reduces the quality of the flocks and shows up particu larly in the stunted growth of the chickens. Home Club Schedule The only home demonstration club meeting to be held in Jones County in the coming week is that of the Piney Grove Club on the Fourth of July, it has been announced by Home Agent Mary Helen Loftin.
