Now in stead of one woman bossing me aroilnd I have three and both my daughters are true daugh ters of their mother. They have voices like drill sergeants, dis positions—at tinges—akin to a wounded tiger and added to all this they have what has loose ly bepn termed over the years “minds of their own.” The task of handling these daughters has, of course, fallen upon my wife and it’s funny to watch. She rides herd on me like Clyde Beatty handles a cage of lions and tigers and about all I do is occasionally growl and a little when Tm out of hearing distance, but with these tiny daughters of mine the situa tion is different, to say the very least. The Home Demon stration Club women of Jones County are learning how to make useful articles for the home from them. On Monday, January 5th at the 'Agriculture Building in Trenton there was an all-day workshop for the leader from each club. This workshop was held by Rose Ell [ wood Bryan, Pood Conservation and Marketing Economist from State College and Mary Olive Owens, Jones County Home Ag ent. The women brought shucks and ladder backed chairs that had no bottoms. They learned how to bottom these chairs with comshucks. It is a slow process and only about one-third of the chair bottom was put in in the length of time they worked, but the shucks make a very pretty bottom and one that wUl last, as long as the chair. Doormats were made at the workshop, too. About two-thirds of a door mat could be done by one wo man. These doormats are made with just a crtaple braid with the rough ends of the shucks serving as a pile. They are very useful and can be made in spare time with no cost at all. | On display were other articles that could be made from com shucks. These consisted of hats, bags, sandals, hot-dish mats, place-mats, porch rugs and character dolls.
