Two Jones Countians get Prison, Two Acquitted in Craven County Robbery In ■ Craven County Superior Court this week two former Jones Countians, who were'on a Sisit to Trenton from their Few York homes, were handed heavy prison sentences and two “home” boys were acquitted In the hearing of the armed rob bery charges in which Rhem Filling Station Operator Her man Staton accused the quar tet of stealing $336 from him; Jesse Taylor drew a 7-10 year prison sentence and Law rence Green was handed a flat 10-year hitch by Judge Henry Stevens of Warsaw who is pre siding over the June term of Craven County’s Superior Court. Sylvester Brown and Robert Lee Morgan were acquitted. According to evidence pre sented at the trial Taylor and Green on a visit to Trenton from their New York home de cided they wanted some whis ky, so Brown voluntered to go with them to the filling sta tion of Staton where they purchased three half-gallon jars of bootleg whisky. After the purchase of the whisky had been made one of the New York ers hoked a hay hook around Staton’s neck, and as might be expected, without much diffi culty took what cash he had on his person. Brown is free under $300 bond on charge of violating the liquor laws and will be tried at the next term of Federal Court in New Bern. Taylor’s car, a ’49 Lincoln which was confiscated when they were caught, will be sold by Federal authorities and he will also face trial for transporting non taxpaid whisky. Reports and budgetary requests from a number of coun ty departments were heard and discussed without final action. County Accountant E. E. Franck presented the tentative 1953-54 budget, District Health 'Officer Dr. R. J. Jones offered his Jones County Health De partment budget and reports were heard from the farm and home agents. Jo Ann Simmons, Hazel Ann Bender Dress Show Winners The Trenton School Auditori um was the setting for the Jones County 4-H Dress Revue on Thursday night, May 21. The first part of the program was a “Designers Court” at which four defendants were judged and sentenced to (De signer’s workshop for being sloppily dressed and violating laws of good design. Betwen acts and judges de cisions, Jo Ann Simmons and Jean Bender, accompanied by Martha Oliver gave a drama tization of “Short’nin’ Bread.” Mary Ann Williams accompan ied by Thelma Bender, did a lovely toe dance. * Narrators for the fashion Show were*, Alta Atom Mallard and Carol Ann Cox with Nancy Carol Mallard as pianist. Girls modeling with winners as desig nated were: Juniors—Jo Ann Simmons, 1st place; Elizabeth Wells, 2nd place; Mary Ann Williams, 3rd place; Mary Sue Price, Olenda Harker, Ellender Jenkins and Joyce .Whaley.
