Yates reports four arrests in the
past week — three of those of
the same man
Francis A: Dixon of MaysviUe was
arrested for public drunkenness
and violating the liquor laws on
his first brush with the law. Three
days later he' was booked on
changes of public drunkenness and
disorderly conduct and four days
later he. was picked up for the
third time on a charge of public
drunkenness.
Yates says his latest information
is that Dixon has departed for
Florida and it is his. (Yates) most
fervent hope'that Dixon wfll stay
in Florida when he gets there.

cense examiner at the Kinston
patrol headquarters.
Moseley was attempting to secure
chauffeur’s license for Koonce
from Examiner Elmer bail when
the fraud was detected. The office
reported that Moseley had already
been successful in obtaining a reg
ular driver’s license for Koonce at
the New Bern patrol station but
apparently decided not to try to
pull the same trick in the same
spirt and came up to Kinston for
the final try, which failed. Each
was placed under $100 bond pend

Over a Year, ‘Tuesday
After more than a year without
a fatal accident in the training of
Air, force pilots at Stallings Air
Base two men were instantly killed
Tuesday afternoon in a crash of a
T-6 trainer three miles south of
Fayetteville.
The dead were listed as Civilian

of Baltimore.
Witnesses said the crash came
as the plane was being barrel

Bids Asked for 29th

Highway Resurfacing
The State Highway and Public
Works Commission hag asked for
bids on Hay 39th on 29 projects
and among these is the resurfac
ing of 112 miles of NC 12 between
Kinston and Trenton..
Work was completed last year on
widening of this stretch of road
Which extends westward from
Trenton to the Lenoir County line.
The resurfacing was delayed to
permit the widened stretch to set
tle so that it would more properly
hold up the surfacing.

Churth is to open at 2 p. m. May*

Registration for the ‘ annual
school will be held Saturday after
noon. The school closes Jime 1st

Wednesday the Clerk of Wayne
County’s Superior Oeiiit issued a
committment to State Prison lor

grocer, whose appeal to su

and Judge Henry Grady of New
Bern passed the prison term.
Since failure of the appeal Spar
row has made a desperate attempt
to obtain sufficient evident to sub
stantiate a plea for a new trial,
ft was felt last week that he had
met with some success in that
effort, but now, apparently, the
I evidence he obtained was not in
time or of sufficient merit to cause
the supreme court to order the
new trial.
According to reports from the
.Lenoir County Sheriff’s Depart
ment, Sparrow was in Wayne
County just before the committ
ment was issued but a few min
utes later was not to be found. Then
a capias was issued by the clerk
of' the Wayne County court and
sent for service to the Lenoir
County sheriff. At 9:30 Thursday
morning Sparrow had not been
found. \
Connie Gravitte Was
Forced Landing but
Escapes Any Injury

escaped personal injury at about
8:30 Thursday morniog.when he
made a forced landing, in a T-28
trainer plane from Stylings Air

Gravitte, who was soloing at the
time of the forced landing, says
the engine cut out about a mile
northwest of the airfield, causing
him to make a “wheels up” land
ing on the fanri'bf Raymond Mur
phy. •
The plane suffered considerable
damage but was not judged to be
a total loss.
