Philyaw of Trenton route two, has been awarded a $300 scholarship to the University <rf North Caro, linq and plans to enroll in Septem ber as a major in science at the Jerry Spence to Be Jones Delegate to 4-H Forestry Camp , Assistant Jones County Agent W. R. Shackelford announced last week that Jerry Spence of the Beayer Creek community has been selected Jones County's delegate to the second annual 4-H Forestry Camp at 4-H Camp Millstone dur ing the week-of June 4 through 9. The camp is located in Richmond County between Ellerbe and Rock ingham. The camp is conducted by the North Carolina Agricultural Extension Service and is sponsored by Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company. 4 and re while at wiH be and fun. The camp program is de signed to give the 4-H Club boys who attend the knowledge and ex perience they win need to be the successful forest owners and lead ers of tomorrow. Experienced for esters and woodsmen from the Ex tension Service and the timber in dustry wfll be the instructors. While at Camp Jerry wUl learn about such things as planting a forest, measuring timber, improv ing timber stands, harvesting the timber crop, how to work safely in the woods, and care of wood tools. Jerry earned this trip to camp by completing forestry projects in Forest Planning, and the 4-H Forestry Demonstration. [Sheriff Brown Yates [Reports Bad Checks Passed in Jones County A relatively quiet week insofar as law enforcement work is concerned has been reported by Jones County .Sheriff Brown Yates. Worthless check charges were the only riffle on otherwise placid waters. Ralph L. Wells is charged with forging three checks and passing them in Jones County. One on Kinstonian E. L. Scott for $38 and two on J. F. Miohn of Rkhlands — one far $38 and the other for an amount not specified in the war 'rant. ‘ *" Sheriff Yates says Wells Is cur rently in the Onslow County jail waiting a hearing on similar charges there, pending revocation of his parole which was granted while he was serving another term for forgery.
