County Supervisor for Farmers Home Administration -at Trenton, received a certificate of apprecia tion along with a cash award from the U. S. Department of Agricul ture for a suggestion he submitted recently Hor revising Hie form of the Farm and Heme Plan used in developing a plan of operation with their borrowers. This award was made in connection with the incentive awards program in augurated by Congress recently in which federal employees are en couraged to submit suggestions through their departments that would improve service of their a geney. Hill, District l (Florida); Dorsey Matthews, District 2 (Georgia); T. W. Williamson, District 3 (South Carolina); and T. W. Allen, Dis trict 8 (Middle Belt of North Caro Lt.' Moore Killed Lieutenant Frederick M. Moore son of Dr. and Mrs. Branch Moore of Kinston, was killed instantly Sunday in the crash of his F-lOfl fighter plane at an Air Force Base in Japan. Another pilot was killed in the same crash. Information available in Kinston indicated that the super-sonic plane flown by Moore crashed on take off. In ad dition to his, family in Kinston Moore is also survived by a wih •od .-mm*- living with him In Japan. Jones Arrests for Week Include Two For Drunken Driving Hie record of arrests in the of fice of Jones County Sheriff Brown Yates shows five arrests in the past week. Most serious of the charges were against Lonnie Griffin of Comfort and Haskins. Samuel Bass of Jacksonville who were each charg ed with drunken driving. Bass was also charged with reckless driv ing. Joe Bender of Pollocksville was accused of public drunkenness and James Houston of Pink Hill route two was charged with the same of fense. Samuel David Roseman of Mia mi Beach, Florida was booked on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Baysden Gets 12 Years for Bogus Bills Earl Baysderv, Richlands and Jacksonville merchant, was found guilty last weak in federal court at Wilmington of counterfeiting over $700,000 in bogus $20 bills and was sentenced to 'a term of 12% years in prison. His brother-in-law Ula Hall was also 'convicted but was fined $5,000 and placed on probation for 5 years. Baysden was a|so fined $10,000. He has filed notice of appeal and the appeal bend was set at $50,000. Eugene Moore Drowns Thursday Afternoon Negro Gets 33 Years For January Burglary Sandy Lee McNeil was- found guilty of 2nd dergee burglary last Friday after just over two hours of deliberation by a Lenoir county Jury. Judge Chester Morris asked McNeil his age, found it was 33 years and then sentenced him to that same number of years “at hard labor in State Prison where* he is to wear felon stripes.” Ashley Jones positively identi fied McNeil as the man he had found in the living room of his home shortly before midnight on January 16 of this year. Jones, armed with a shotgun, stopped McNeil directly under an overhead light, and then to his discomfort found the shotgun unloaded. When Jones turned to get shells for the gun, McNeil fled and was arrested later the next morning. He had previously served prison terms for burglary. MARINE ACCUSED Gpl. FYank Gordon, a negro Gamp Lejeune Marine, was ar rested last week on a warrant 'by a Kinston negress that charged him with assault with intent to commit rape. Cardinals Holding Tryouts July 1-2 at Wilmington Wilmington will be the hub ol intensive baseball activity on July 1 and 2 when Cardinal scout Ed die Lyons will stage a baseball tryout camp at Legion Field, it was announced) today by Farm Director Walter Shannon. “Changing times have made us more selective in our scouting en deavors, and we are holding these camps only in certain key places chosen by our scouts, “Shannon remarked. “Certainly there are a lot of players living in areas that are not scouted as frequently as others who deserve a chance to find out whether or not they’re ready for professional baseball. Tryout camps give them that break. Besides, it is .physically im possible for our scouts to see all of the players in their territories, and camps make it possible for them to look at a group of players at one time.” Wbnkouts will get underway promptly at 10 a. m. To be eligible a player must be in the 17 to 23 year age bracket. No equipment is needed other than a glove, shoes and a uniform if the player has one. The Cardinals will supply the balls, bats, and catching equip ment. “We want to point out, too,” continued, Shannon, “that all of us are dedicated to the job of help ing baseball newcomers realize their ambition to get to the big time. H, Heath one lot in Trenton._ PARRISH ARRESTED Marion Parrislh of Kinston route one was arrested Tuesday night on a warrant that accuses him of passing a worthless check. Eugene Moore, 44 year-old Ten ant fanner of the Elan Grove sec tion of Jones County, drowned last Thursday afternoon while on a fish ing trip about six miles below Trenton on Trent River. Moore was accompanied by Paul Harrison of the same section, who reported that Moore told him he wanted to “try out his motor”. Harrison got out of the boat and Moore did not return. Despite intensive searching Moore’s body was not found until about 7 Saturday night. Graveside funeral services were held a< 9 Sunday morning. Lenoir Safecrackers Given Sentences Last week four of five men earlier indicted pled guilty to multiple breakings and enterings and safe crackings in Lenoir Coun ty and drew heavy prison terms and on Tuesday of this week two other indictments were made by Kinston Detective Wheeler Ken nedy that clear up the last un solved safe cracking in this series. Earner Louis Sheppard drew 13 years, Thomas C. Jones 7 years and Ernest Battle got 3 years af ter their guilty pleas last week each of .their sentences from Le noir County to begin at the expira tion of prison terms they had al ready received in Pitt County. Henry A. “Jim Dandy” Davis got 4 to 7 years for his part in the series of crimes. Charlie Graham, another of those arrested last win ter, could not be tried since he was in federal prison for stealing gov ernment checks. He will be tried later. The Tuesday indictments were against Jones and Graham for their part in stealing and tearing open the safe from Pharo’s super market on South Queen Street, one of the crimes in the same series which had remained unsolved un til Tuesday. New indictments were issued a gainst Fred Lee Edwards of 612 South Adk:n Street, who is charged with breaking, entering and lar ceny and Willy “Juicy” Thompson of 900 Warters Street, who was held for vagrancy and investiga tion for complicity in disposing of some of the items found in the Pharo safe, including a diamond ring.
