Colonel Lewis Named Overall Chairman of Bicentennial Planning Monday night the Kinston City Council named Colonel Meriwether Lewis overall chairman for the plan ning of ^^^^s^^entennial^ cet ary report to the council on surveys that had been made by a committee including himself and Aldermen Carl Wooten and Mansfield Creech. Lewis says he has but one or two fixed notions about the pattern of the city’s 200th birthday party. White has been charged with fil ing fraudulent income tax returns for the years 1956, 1957, and 19S8. The government says in its in dictment that White during those three years paid a total of $192.66 in federal income tax and it claims ithat he owed for that period $4, 663.20. Since the North Carolina office of the Internal Revenue Service is in Greensboro all tax charges are brought in the middle division fed eral courts. Charged with Rape Nineteen year-old Buddy Williams of Grifton route 2 has been charged with committing rape upon a 12 year-old child in his neighborhood. Both are negroes.
