Monday the Jone's County Board of Commissioners transferred $2500 from tbe general fund to other budget items that were nearing depletion as the end of the fiscal yesff oh June 30th draws close. The funds in need were the aid to dependent children item in the welfare' department budget, which got $1500 to take it through the fiscal year, and $1,000 was added >td the superior court appropriation to take care of the May court term expenses. County Attorney is Authorized to Clear Way for Bond Issue f Jones County Attorney Donald Brock Monday was authorized to make the necessary studies to pre , pare the way for a school bond issue in the amount of $150,000. The commissioners plan to call for the bond issue in the November general election if bonding attorn eys' and local govermerit commis sion approve the isBue. If the bond issue is approved by these groups then it will be tend ered to the voters of the ^county and if they approve it the money will be used'to build and renovate several units in the school system. Mrs. Brock Resigns Assistant Home Agent Job Monday Morning Mrs, Donald Brock Monday tendered her resignation as assist anf Jones' County , Home Agent. No successor has been named! Mrs. Brock’s resignation was caused by reason of her health. Drunk Charges in Five Cases During Past Week in Jones Sheriff W. B. Land Transfers , Jones County Register of Deeds Bill Parker reports the recording for just one land transfer, in the past week and that was of 40 acres in Chinquapin Township from L. P. Gooding to Tobe Heath. Mm Commissioners Appoint Library Commission and Approve Book Service B*'; * ‘ Jones Commissioners Oppoaie Insurance * Rate increases Jo/ies County’s board of commis sioners Monday passed a resolu tion. opposing the increase in in surance rates that was recently ap proved by the state insurance com missioner. County Attorney Don Brock was instructed to "forward a copy of .the resolution to the commissioner. The rate on extended coverage in specified coastal counties was doubled. ■ Amo* Taylor Elected President of NCEA The Jones County unit of the North Carolina Education Associa tion had a smorgasbord Saturday night in the Governor Tryon Hotel in New Bern. President -Leo Nance welcomed the members and guests and after dinner, he introduced Miss Tiny Hammond, who told of her trip to the Jefferson^Jackson Dinner in Raleigh by way of a poem she had written. Then Mrs. W. B. Moore was honored for her dedicated work as a leader of the Future Teachers AsSociaiton in her school. * Following then was the installa tion of officers by Superintendent W. B. Moore and Fred Pippin, honorary sergeant at arms. Officers for the new year are Amos Taylor, president — Mrs. Marvin Thomas, vice-president — Miss Julia Whitty, secretary, and Mis. C D. Z iki-S BQyn ••wy i&ll 19q*> Ijloo in coin©® The' Jpnes County Board of Commissioners took a long-delayed step forward by adopting a resolu tion offered by Cqptmissioner Fred Foscue and unanimously adopted that may ultimately bring library , service, to every part of the coun ty. f •' Although no appropriations were ' made to irtiplemeot the resolution it was generally assumed that this step would be followed by the al location of sufficient funds to im- / plement the resolution. The board did name a commis sion to further the project which includes Mrs. Marvin Thomas, Tommy Foscue, Mrs. Cary House, Carter Patterson, Mrs. Wesley Oakley and Commissioner Nelson Banks. It is the hope of the commission ers that a cooperative library sys tem can-be worked but with one of the,more densely populated coun ties joining Jones County so that Jones Countians may benefit from a larger number of books and from the advice and assistance of full time, well-trained librarians. Robert Britt Named MaysvoUe Fire Dept. Chief for 1962-63 Visiting firmen from Jacksonville, Belgrade and Trenton at the Mon day night ^meeting of the Mays ville Fire Department brought the total number present to about 60. Jones Board Agrees To Join Craven in Civil Defense Plan Monday the Jones County Board of Commissioners agreed to join in a plan suggested by the state of fice of civilian defense in which Jones and Craven Cdbnties will have the services of a full-time director. Jones County’s part of 'the cost - of this full-time set up was fixed at $12,000. The remaining part of the cost will be extracted from the tax payers by the Craven County tax collector and the federal tax collector. Kinstonian Among 11 Greenville Prison Camp Escapees Paul Marvin Tew of Kinston, serving a term for breaking, en tering and larceny, was one of II felons who escaped Monday morn ing from the prison catnp at Green ville. Bars were sawed and a fence climbed by the escaping group, sev en of who still remain at large.
