NoUm Jonas Memorial Baptists Hold Picnic Sunday Honoring Chaplain Immediately following church services Sunday morning, members of the Memorial Baptist church and several friends gathered at the community building for a picnic lunch, honoring Chaplain and Mrs. Joseph Davis of Gamp Lejeune. Since the departure of their form er pastor. Dr. A. E. Thompson, Chaplain Davis has served part of the time as their substitute pastor, both at morning and evening ser vices. The churches new pastor is ex pected soon and the members chose this occassion to express their deep appreciation to the Davis’s for their service. B. L. Mattocks Given Birthday Dinper at Home of Son, Robert B. L. Mattocks, who celebrated his 81st birthday Sunday, was honored at a dinner given him by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Claudia Mattocks at their home. Present other than Mr. Mat tocks were Mrs. Mattocks, Stevie and Elizabeth Phillips and William Earl Mattocks and son, Greg, of Belgrade. Methodist Men’s Club See Movie on Tuesday The Tuesday night meeting of the Methodists Mens Club was opened with a hymn, followed with prayer by Tom Foscue. The nine mfen present then enjoyed a chick en salad supper served j>y G W. ’ Lancaster, Roger Mallard and Le onard Thompson. William Earl Mattocks presided over the business portion of the meeting at which routine business was discussed and the men agreed to sponsor MYF president, Kathy, Meadows, at the Annual Youth Conference being held at Duke in August. Morgans Sunday were Mrs. Murray Lanier and daughter, Stephanie, of Richlands. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Pelletier were in Stella Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Pelletier. • • • Miss Clara Foscue, who has been spending the summer in Shallotte at the home of her sister Mrs. M. H. Rourk in order to be with her mother, Mrs. A. C. Foscue, was home for a few days last week but has returned. Mrs. Foscue is still improving satisfactorily but is unable to return home as yet. HOSPITALIZED Calvin Helms of Kinston route 3 lost control of the pickup truck he was driving on the Firetower Road at about 9 Wednesday morning and was pinned in it when it turned over in a ditch.
