The dinner arrangements were
supervised by the Oak Grove, Mat
lardtowtv and Beaver Creek Clubs,
Hospitality was taken care of by
the Maple Grove and Piney Grvoe
clubs, The Clean-up detail fell to,
Chinquapin, Friendly, Dogwood and
Tuckahoe clubs. Decorations were
by Wyse Fork, Comfort and Pleas
ant Hill clubs and the program was
arranged by Maysville and Lee’s
Chapel clubs.
Waitresses for the supper were
member of the Jones County 4-H.

Two Charged With
Theft of Com from '

During the past week two young
negroes have been charged with
stealing four barrels of com. from
the barn , of Thurman DeBruhl be

The accused are Charles Odell
Dixon of Trenton and Willie J.
Richmond of Kinston. Each is free
under tjond, pending his trail at
the next term of Jones County Su
perior Court. ,.
The only other indictment' re
ported in the past week in Jones
County was that of Harold L. Hurst
of Swansboro who w as charged
with operating a car with improp
er brakes.
Onslow Car-Train
Crash Kills Three ;
Injures Kinstonians
A car-train crash .Tuesday after
noon east of Jacksonville killed
three members of the same family
and injured a Kinston mother and

20, all of Jacksonville route 1.
The injured were Mrs. Inez
Sydes, another daughter of Whaley,
and Mrs. Sydes’ small.son, Carl.
The tragedy happened on a cross
nig of the Atlantic Coast Line
Roalroad on the “Pumpkin Center
Road” seven miles east of Jackson
ville.
The three who were killed were
all riding in the front seat of the
car, and the injured were in the
back seat. .

its monthly meeting Thursday
night at the Qub House.
Mrs. Fred Foscue, president,
presided over the meeting. Mrs.
John Hughes Pollock, secretary,
read the minutes. Mrs. Darns
Koonce, gave the Treasurer’s re
port
Mrs. D.. L. Nance presented the
guest speaker, Dan Wise, of Kins
ton.
Wise gave an interesting talk
on the ' Industrial Education Cen
ter in Kinston.
Mrs. Nimrod Carroll was chos
en as a contestant to represent the
Woman’s Qub in the Mrs. Jones
County Contest.
Refreshments were served and
the ! meeting was adjourned until
December.

Program by 6 Grade
On Thanksgiving Day
An interesting program ■ on
Thanksgiving and how it came to
be a national holiday was presented
by' Mrs. Dickie Richhr'dsbp’s sixth
grade at the Monday, night meet-1
ing of the Maysville PTA.- Mrs.
Harold Drown presided
- The program was preceeded -by
reading of-the 100th Psalm after
which the group repeated the Lords
Prayer.
Committee reports were submit
ted during the business portion and
it was announced that the proceeds
from the fall, festival totaled over
$400.00. Jere W. Pelletier announc
ed that he had received more than
$100.00 in donations, which are to
be applied to the playground proj
ect.
Following adjournment, grade
representatives from the 6th grade'
served soft drinks and cookies.
Friendship Supper
The annual turkey supper of
Friendship Free Will Baptist
Church will be held beginning at 5
o’clock Saturday afternoon. For
those who don’t like turkey there
will also he a barbecue supper avail
able with all the ususal trimmings.
The public is invited to attend.

Maysville Fire Department was
termed a big success.
Beginning at 11 o’clock, the sale
of barbecue and chicken salad con
tinued until around 9 p. m. In ad
dition to the plates taken out, ta
bles were set up for those who
wished to eat at the scene of the

Three prizes were given in draw
ings for the adults and three' for
the children.
A complete sell out, proceeds
amounted to more than $700.00 with
approximately $100.00 donated to
cover expenses.
The solicitation committee also
announced they had received about
$500.00 in donations.
These funds will be used for the
addition to the fire house which
is already underway and should be
ready for use by the first of the
year.
Three Kinston Men
Charged in Greene
County Break-Ins
Three young Kinston white men
were arrested last week and charg
ed with two breakings and enter
ings in Greene County and also in
dicted for theft of a slide-projector
from a parked car in Kinston.
The three, Billy Lynn, Edmond
Cauley and Marvin Brown, all have
previous records with the Kinston
police department, and Lynn was
tried in the October/ term of Su
perior Court for assault with- a
deadly weapon.
They are charged with breaking
in Edge Brothers Lumber Com
pany just south of Snow Hill and
stealing a .22 caliber taget pistol
and a small amount of money, and
stealing about $200 in cash and
some merchandise from the Red
and White Supermarket in Hook
erton. :
The slide projector, recovered in
Kinston, was stolen from the ear

Two Ex-Convicts Held
On Narcotics Charges
Option Exercise by
ACL on Industrial
Park for Kinston
Last Wednesday night the Kins
ton City Council and the Lenoir
County Board of Commissioners
agreed to extend street, sewer and
water facilities to a 64-acre indus
trial park just north of Kinston
that was under option to the At
lantic Coast Line Railroad from
Miss Mae Harvey.
The railroad asked that these
facilities be officially promised be
fore it would exercise its option,
which expired November 11.
Minutes after the two boards
acted, Oliver Anderson, Director of
the Lenoir' Industrial Development
Commission was told by telephone
by ACL officials that they would
exercise the option and make this
area which lies between the \rail
and between Highland Avenue and
the Adkin Canal available at com
petitive prices for location of new

The pair was picked up when
they cruised too slowly and too
frequently too late at night around
Brewer’s Drug Store in Pink Hill.
Search of the 1961 Falcon car
they were driving turned up the
burglary tools and the hacotics,
which included morphine and oth
er powerful drugs.
Dickerson is a drug addict, who
was released from prison October
24th for breaking into several drug
stores in the Kinston area and
stealing narcotics.
The car being used by the pair
belonged to Mrs. Eunice Pigott
McLawhom, who was recently re
leased from a probationary prison
term for operating a house of pros
titution and assault with a deadly
weapon with intent to kill.

The Mrs. Jones County Contest
will include representatives from
most of the county’s clubs, who are
alumni of Jones Central High
School.
The crowning of Mrs. Jones
County will be held at half time
and after the game a dance will be
held in the school.
Major purpose of the Friday night
shindig, aside from getting the old
grads together, is to raise money
to help pay for an activity bus
that has recently been purchasedl
for Jones Central.

Mrs. Mallard Back
From UN, DC Visit*
Mrs. Sylvanns Mallard has re
turned home after spending a week
touring the United Nations in New
York City, and the White House.
She was the delegate for Jones
County from the Home I)emon~
stration Clubs. While there she
stayed at the National 4-H Foun
dation Club.
