By Mrs, Nolan Jonas Week of Prayer is •Observed in Maysville The Memorial Baptists WMS ob served Week of Prater for For eign Missions Monday through Friday of last week, meeting each morning with the exception of Wednesday when they met in the •evening. The subject of the entire course of -study was “God’s Gift, The Light of the World,” Mrs. G. L. Eubanks was prayer chairman. Monday’s program liras present ed by Mrs. J. M. Thomas and Mrs. Earl Yeoman, Tuesday’s by Mrs. G. ' L. Eubanks and J. P. 'Gardner, Wednesday by Rev. Av ery Lumsden, Mrs. Eubanks and Mrs. A. B.-Braeey, Thursday’s by Mrs. L. R. Gerock and Friday’s by Mrs. Braeey. WSCS Christmastime Program on Tuesday A Christmas program was pres ented by Mrs. A. H. McDaniel and Mrs. Joe Thompson at the Tues day evening meeting of the W1SCS, held at the church. Mrs. McDaniel gave the devo tional, with selected scriptures and led a prayer litany. Taking parts were Miss Jackie Jones and Mrs. Nolan Jones. Special music was presented by Mrs. Thompson, so loist, and Mrs. Rudolph Pelletier, organist. Mrs. McDaniel led the closing prayer. Mrs. C. L. Morgan presided dur ing the busines portion at which time;' they agreed to furnish re freshments at the MYF Sub Dis trict^meeting which is to be held December 17. Gifts for shut-ins were* brought also. After dismissing with the pur pose, Mrs. Starling Pelletier serv ed refreshments. Leonard Thompsons Entertain Group The Senior MYPs were enter tained with a Christmas party Thursday night by their counselors Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Thompson. Meeting at the church, the group , enjoyed playing games and singing several Christmas Carols. Later they were served refreshments of punch, nuts,' mints,, cookies and sandwiches. Sunday School Party Given by Methodists Immediately following church services Sunday evening, William Earl Mattocks entertained members of his Methodist Sunday School class with a Christmas party at his home in Belgrade. The group exchanged gifts and enjoyed refreshments of soft drink floats and cookies. , Present were Joyce Meadows, Stevie and Elizabeth Phillips, Deb bie Smith, Cleve Provost Jr., Glen Jones, Barry Britt* Linda Provost, Jimmy Provost, the Rev. J. T. Smith, Mr. Mattocks, Mrs. Mat tocks and their children, Debra and Greg. Friendship of Girls Has Party on Monday The Friendship of Girls held their Christmas party Monday evening at the home of their leader, Mrs. J. T. Smith. The girls enjoyed playing games, and singing Christmas carols, led by Debbie Smith. Refreshments of punch, sand wiches and cookies were served to Kathy and Joyce Meadows, Eliz abeth Phillips, Patricia Banks, Ma rie Johnson, Jeri Foy, Violet Smith, and Rev. Smith. The devotional was given by Jeri Foy* and afterwards, the girls ex changed gifts. DEATHS Mr*. Mary Ellen Sutton Odum Funeral services were held Mon day for Mrs. Mary Ellen Sutton Odum, 30, wife of Elijah Odum, who died from injuries suffered Saturday night in a Maysville ac cident. Yeoman who is spending some'time in Wilson, was here during the weekend visiting the Earl Yeomans and Mrs. Vash ti Yeoman. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Conway were visitors in Newport Sunday. This week, they have visiting them from Newport, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Gamer. • • • Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Hubert White and the Harry Collins last week were Mrs. Don Hare and son and Miss Lollie Collins. • * * Harold Mattocks and daughter, Ellen, spent Sunday with Mrs. Walter Scott near New Bern while Mrs. Mattocks is a patient at Duke Hospital. • • • Mrs. N. N. Mattocks was a vis itor in Jacksonville Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Phillips vis ited in Kinston Sunday afternoon. • • • Mrs. John Williams of Ft. Lee, N. J. is spending some time here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Foscue. Mrs. A. H. McDaniel was in New Bern last week visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Mildred Thompson, and to attend the Christmas concert at the New Bern High School.
