Ten members of the Mayavflle Home Demonstratiod Club met Thursday afternoon at the com* munity building with Mrs. C. Ci Dameron presiding. After the opening hymn “O mas ter, Le Me Walk With Thee,” Mrs. L. L. Mattocks gave the devotional with scriptures taken from St John, following with a short med itation. . An interesting demonstration on Home Grown Vegetables was given by Mrs. Wilford Philyaw, who lat er passed out leaflets concerning methods of preparing vegetables and containing recipes. The members discussed the pos sibility of soliciting subscriptions tor the White Oak Scene as one of their projects-. Adjourning with reading of the dub Collect, Mrs. Albert Hardison and Mrs. J. T. Smith served pine apple cake and Coffee. Mrs. W. E. Raiford Hostess to Garden Club Recently The Greenleaf Garden Club, held their regularly scheduled meeting rceently at the home of Mrs. W. E. Raiford. Mrs. Starling Pelletier presented the program, using the subject “Water Pollution Control.” Mrs. Jere W1. Pelletier, a visitor, showed : beautiful color slides of the Eliz | abethan Gardens. < This is to be the final meeting > until September. They discussed their project for the summer months ** while they will not ;$e meeting. 4 After adjournment Mrs. Raifor^ served punch, cake squares, nuts -andmints. Others present were Mesdames Robert Mattocks, J. C. Foscue, J. A. Thompson, W. E. Mattocks, F. H. Pruitt, Wolford Philyaw, E H. Bryant, N. N. Mattocks, A. H. McDaniel and another visitor, Mrs. Bobby Mattocks. Young Baptists Hold Their Meeting The Young Women of the First Baptist church held their Circle meeting recently with 9 members present. Mrs. Ray Banks presided and opened the meeting with the de votional. After business ;>was transacted, the program, “Educating Youths,” was presented by Jean Ferrl who introduced the program, Ruth Banks speaking on The Seed, Shirley Gasperson on The Plant, Margie Horrell on the Fruit and Lavcrne Banks on The Flower. They were dismissed with pray er. ‘ ‘ Memorial Baptist WMU Has Meeting The ladies of the Memorial Bap i tist’s WMU held their regularly scheduled meeting last Wednesday at the church. ' , The opening prayer was given by Mrs. J. C. Bell and program lead er, Mrs. W. E. Raiford, assisted by Mrs. A. B. Bracey and C. W. Taking scripture from St John, Mrs. A. H. McDaniel gave the de votional and led the program, on, the subject "The Lifted Christ.” Assisting her were Mrs. House and Mrs. N. N. Mattocks. Mrs. 'Mattocks presided over the business meeting and they were dismissed with thfc benediction. . Mrs. House served cake, cream, and coffee. Also present were Mrs. Zena Foscue, Mrs. J. H. Wynn and Mrs.- B. L. Mattocks. PERSONALS Here from Hertford during the weekend^ visiting Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Mattocks was their daughter, Mrs. John Coston. .♦ * * Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Raiford had visiting them recently Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Burton of Sedley, Va. and Mr. and Mrs. John Lilly of Suffex Court House, Va. Mis. I. F. House was Mrs. Eddie Dunbar has returned front Kinston where she visited her son, Jerry, and underwent observa-' tion at the hospital there. She is still confined to bed and has her sister, Mrs. Alice Conway of Pel-; ham staying wtih her. * * * Mrs. Robert Mattocks last week' visited her daughter and son-in law, the Walter Gerocks in Alex andria, Va.: also her brother, Joe Wynn family. * * * Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Bracey were L. N. Latham, Mrs. Johnny Hughes and children Brenda and J. B. and Mrs. Gra ham Williams and son, Jeffrey, all from near New Bern. • • • Levi Conway from Kinston is spending this week with his bro ther, Ralph Conway. • * • Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mattocks were Mr. and Mrs. Percy Parker of Belgrade. Visiting Rev. and Mrs. J. T. Visiting Thursday from Wil mington with Mrs. Guy Eubanks was her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cox. • • • Mrs. June Mattocks and daugh ter, Ellen, are spending a few days this week at the home of Mrs. Mattocks mother, Mrs. Scott, near New Bern. i Walter Ralph Johnson has been home with his family from Kentucky to visit and attend the graduation of his daughter, Shirley. Mrs. George Yancey is a patient at Duke hospital in Durham.
