The American people need be reminded that President Kennedy was hot murdered by an assassin who was participating 5h the A' merican tradition of debate. And, yet, repeated charges are being heard that America must beat a “collective guilt” for the dastardly deed. A Senator who calls himself “liberal" says that die - responsi bility lies “on die people of Dallas” ..because the tragedy occurred there and because there was much disaf fection among the people of Dallas -lifar some of the President’s pro-' - To contend that this created an latmosphere of encouragement for •Lee Harvey Oswald is absurd logic, and callous distortion of » crude • truth. _ ; _ ' w .Jp The assassin Oswald also despised '•the things that Bapy Goldwater stands for. But those who are now shouting so piously about' "blood-stained hands” had better be careful Who has been most critical of the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities? Who has scoffed most often at FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s warnings about the infiltration of communists into the American society? Talk of unity cuts both ways. Suppose America bad been, united on the matter of keeping track of communists? Suppose we had been more inclined to recognize: commu nist and communism for What they are ? Would Lee Harvey Oswald then have been in a position to fire the shots that pitched John F. Ken nedy into eternity? If Americans share a common guilt, this is it.
