Extension of the program to ' children other than those of de ceased service-connected Veterans has been in effect only since July 7 when President Johnson signed the new law. The new-law extends the pro gram to children of veterans of the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War U, the Korean Conflict and the peacetime service who have been permanently and totally disabled by illness or injury attributable either to their war time service or, in the ease of peacetime veterans, to, disabilities recevied in line of duty. / Eligible children receive benefits up to $110-a month for full time enrollment, and proportionately lower amounts for part time study, while pursuing their courses sel ected with the aid of counseling experts in the VA. Courses on the high school level are not permit ted. Age limits are set at 18 to 23, btft in certain cases exceptions may be made. Handicapped children who may have to take special training may start at age 14. At the same time, studies may be pursued after age 23 in certain cases, like stu dents who serve with the Armed iL-l- kl-iLJ_ Marriage does not preclude patici -pation by those otherwise qualified.
