Henderson to Speak Friday Night Every resident of Jones Coun ty is urgently invited to attend a get-out-the-vote rally that is being held Friday night at 7:30 in the court house at which Third District Representative David Henderson is scheduled to be principle speaker. Recorder's Court Docket Lightened By 21 Cases During Past Two Weeks Trials or submissions cleared! 21 cases from the docket of Jones County Recorder’s Court in the past two weeks. At the court’s next formal session new ly sworn in Judge Joe Becton will preside, replacing Nick No ble who did not seek election to the job he was appointed to when the court was instituted slightly over a year ago. Four charges of failure to list taxes Resulted in Lee Morris Jr. and Albert Lee Killingsworth of Pollocksville paying the court costs and the charges dismiss ed against Clifton Robert and Frank Rhodes Jr. of Trenton route 2. a female, David Williams of New Bern route 3 paid $100 for drunken driving, a non-sup port charge against Larry James Jones of Maysville Star route was dismissed. Bill Schaffer of Maysville was given a choice between 30 days in jail or paying the court costs for stealing. New Jones County Board of Commissioners Sworn in Monday Morning The new Jones County Board of Commissioners is seen above taking the oath of office before Superior Court Clerk Walter P.Henderson, who is standing at left. Seated is Board Clerk Bill Parker, who is also Register of Deeds. The commissioners, from left to right before Henderson are Harold Mallard, Jim Barbee, Alva Howard, Nel son Banks and Charlie Battle Jr. In organizing the board Mallard, who is the senior member, was elected chairman, succeeding Hanks, who has served for the past four years in that capacity. This is the first political venture for Howard add Battle, but Barbree had served previously on the board, lie new members succeeded Horace Lee Haddock, Eugene Simpson and Carl Brown. I. R. Turner of Trenton route 2 was the central figure in a rather unusual situation. He came in and pled guilty to pub lic drunkenness and paid the court costs which is allowed in such cases by the court. But when Judge Noble convened court he refused to accept the plea and issued a capias to have Turner brought in and tried in open court. For speeding the following paid as indicated: Henry Green Foster of Greenville, Thomas Robert Kongh of Camp Lejeune, < George B. Kennedy of Kinston, Carlton Wallace Arthur of Pol locksville route 1, John. Joseph Hughes of Camp Lejeune and Simon Becton Edwards of Mays ville route 1 each paid $25. La verene Chilcoat Lefler of Tren ton paid $15 and Alfred Robert Richardson of Jacksonville route 1 paid the costs of court. Paying the court costs for oth er traffic charges were James Louis Abney of Jacksonville, Hubert Lee Williams of Rich lands route 2, James Ray Moore New Civil Suit In the past week Superior Court Clerk . Walter Henderson reports filing one new civil suit in his office; that in which Mil ton H. Rollison is seeking to recover $1140.14 he alleges he loaned to Caroline W. Parker on May 4, 1962 and upoir which no payment has been made. County Holidays Monday the board of county commissioners approved Christ mas holidays from the 16th throught the 25th for court house employees and also New Year’s day off. Manslaughter Charges Disposed of in Jones Count Session During Past Week In la tit week’s session of Jones County Superior Court two charges of manslaughter were disposed of; one with a plea of guilty and in the other a decision to not prosecute by the state. Ernest Bradley Benton of Kins ton pled guilty to drunken driv ing and manslaughter and was given a 6-to-8 year prison term which was suspended on condi Randolph Foy is Elected One of Jones Soil Board Last Saturday voters of Jones County elected Randolph Foy of Trenton to the Board of Su pervisors of the Lower Neuse Soil and Water Conservation District. Foy will begin a three year term on January 1. The supervisors of soil and water conservation districts are responsible for formulating a conservation program for their districts. After a program is de veloped, the supervisors use the services of several government agencies to carry out the pro gram. The Lower Neuse District is composed of the counties of Cra ven, Pamlico, Carteret, Onslow, and Jones. Each county has three members on the board. Foy will join C. L. Davis and R. L. Fordham in representing Jones County. Jones County Tax Listers are Named Monday the Jones County Board of Commissioners nam ed the following tax listers for 1965: White Oak Township Harold Mattocks, Pollocksville Town ship Harry Mallard, Trenton Township Annie Mallard, Chin quapin Township J. J. Chad wick, Cypress Creek Township Braxton Howard, Beaver Creek Township J. P. Davenport and Tuckahoe Township Rex Mills. of Maysville and Ventis Holmes of New Bern. tion Benton pay a $100 fine and remain on probation four years. The case against Willie Koonce, driver of a car that plunged into a creek in Western Jones County this fall and drowned a mother and two children, was dismissed when Solicitor Luth er Hamilton Jr. reached the con clusion that there was not suf ficient evidence to get the case to a jury. The trial of three young ne groes on a rafce charge came to an end with a mistrial when the jury could not reach a de cision on the guilt or innocence of the trio. They will be tried again in the March term of the court. In other criminal cases dis posed of in the mixed term Quincy Cletis Southard was found not guilty of drunken driving, John Pinkney Eubanks was fined $100 for drunken driv ing and Willie Thomas had an assault on female charge dis missed. Civil Case On the civil side of the dock et a suit that has been previous ly non-suited three times was non-suited again with special di rection of the court that it be non-suited “with prejudice as to the institution or maintenance of any further action or pro ceeding between the parties arising out of the transaction or transactions that form the basis of this suit.” The action was that of Ethan Mills and his wife against Don ald Brock. Still remaining on the docket is a suit the couple brought against Wesley Jones and Raeford Blizzard, in which it is alleged that they fradulent ly obtained a farm in Tuckahoe Township from the couple. Divorces on grounds of two year’s separation went to Dor is McCarter Leathers from Ro bert Leathers and to Lois Mea dows Scardino from John J. Scardino Jr. Old civil actions dismissed in cluded a suit brought by a num ber of his sisters against Lee Wilcox, a suit brought by Willie Bryant against Jimmie Barber and a suit brought by Robert Ward against Sylvia Carr.
