NEWS by Mrs. Nolan Jones Mrs. L. L. Parker is Hostess to Her Club Mrs. L. L. Parker was host ess to the Maysville Greenleaf Garden Club in her home in Bet grade recently. Mrs. W. E. Mat tocks presided and Mrs. R. N. Knight gave the devotional Routine reports were submit ted by committee chairmen and Mrs. Mattocks spoke to the group on the subject, Successful Rose Culture. i The hostess served cherry farts, toasted nuts, red candy hearts, coffee and hot tea. A Valentine motif was used in both refreshments and decoration. Others present were: Mesdam Turner, Lee Moore, Hazel Barbee B. M. Barbee, N. N. Mattocks and A. H. McDaniel. Mrs. Jean Johnson Hostess to Class Mrs. Jean Johnson was host ess to the Memorial Baptists Young Women’s Sunday Class which met in her home recently. 'Pie ladies discussed the pos sibility of a new project and a sentence prayer was held for the upcoming revival. - Mrs. Johnson served cheese cake, nuts, mints and coffee to: Mesdames Julia Barbee, Myrt Buck, Nina Bracey, Lu Nell es W. E. Raiford, J. C. Foscue, and Lillian Gardner. Medames Pelletier Hostesses to Circle Mrs. Sarah Pelletier was host ess and Mrs. Evelyn Pelletier her co-hostess when the Fellowship Circle met Monday evening. The devotional was taken from the Upper Room with scripture from St. Luke 7, followed with the hymn, “Give of Yourself to the Master.” i The program subject was Dai ly Devotions, and the group was urged to use the Upper Room in their daily devotions. The hymn, “More Love to Thee,” concluded the program. Mrs. Margaret Mallard presid ed over'the business portion and urged members to, attend the study course being held each Sunday evening until April 3. Mrs. Claudia Mattocks and Mrs. Ruby Knight reported on the beginning class which was held February 27 and at which time a Fellowship Supper was also held. Following the Circle benedic tion, the hostesses-served cocoa nut cake and coffee to those named above and: Mesdames Thelma Foscue, Dot Hardison, Dot Mallard, Lillie Mae Mead ows, Aubrey Mercer, Sara Nell Thompson, and Misses Jackie and Nell Jones. ‘ /Space Age Living' Program Topic , “Living in The Space Age!” was the program subject at the Tues day evening meeting of the WSCS, held in the social room of the church. f Throe worlds were presented; The Telescopic World by Clara Foscue, the Miscropscopic World — fsara Pelletier. Mrs. Mercer gave the devotional, using scrip in unison, chocolate pie and corn fee were served by Lillie Mae Meadows and Pauline Meadows. Tommy Mercer is Given Anniversary Party Last Week Tommy Mercer celebrated his sixth birthday last week at a party given by bis parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mercer, at their home in Maysville. The children enjoyed playing games and were served refreshments of cake, icre cream and soft drinks. Attending were April Lynn Hardison, Elizabeth Monette, Timmie Thompson, Stephen Bry ant, Billy Johnson, Danny, John ny and Bobby Mercer. PERSONALS Mrs. A. B. Bracey and chil dren, Albert, Carol and Bruce visited her.father, L. N. Lath am at Riverdale Sunday. * • * Patsy Eubanks of East Caro lina, accompanied by a friend, Jane Lee Suler, spent the week end at home with her mother, Mrs. G. L. Eubanks. • * • J. P. Mrs. Marvin Allen, Bonnie and Wendy of Sneads Ferry were here Sunday visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Riggs. * ** * Mr. and Mrs. Etheridge Jones, Rodney and Darrell were in Jacksonville Sunday. Result: $125 damage to Smith’s car and $25 to Miss Hasley’s. ; Maysville Baptists Observe Week of Prayer With Services of Meditations Memorial and* the First Bap tist Churches of Maysville ob served Week of Prayer for Home Missions by meeting at their churches each evening last week for programs. Their theme was “As My Fa ther Hath Sent Me, So Send I You." Scripture theme was tak en from John 20 and hte Hymn for the week was “Hark the Voice of Jesus Calling.” Presenting the programs at the First Baptist Church were: Monday — Mrs. Grace Adams, using the subject, To Witness Throughout the Homeland; Tues day — Mrs. Roy McPeak — sub ject — To Witness in the Great Cities; Wednesday, Mrs. Dennis Wright presented the program at the regular Wednesday evening worship service, using as her top ic — To Witness to The World at Home; Thursday — Mrs. Ma rie Adams — subject — To Witness Through Young Church es and Conventions; and Friday — Mrs. Beulah Brown — using the theme topic for the week as her subject; Saturday, the fam ilies were asked to worship in the home as a conclusion. At the Memorial Baptist Church, Mrs. W. E. Raiford presented the program each evening, using the same subjects except Wed nesday evening when Rev. Avery Lumsden led the program. The customary Annie Armstrong of fering for Home Missions was taken. Harriett Speaks to Jones Central FT A The Jones Central Future Teachers of America held their March meeting at Jones Central High School. Ann DuVal pres ided at the meeting. Teresa Kime gave the devotional. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The group discussed the F.T.A. Scholarship that is to be given to a senior member who plans to go into the field of teaching. It was voted by the members to let the scholarship be a gift, and that the receiver would not have to pay it back. G. W. Harriett, Superintend ent of Jones County Schools, was the guest speaker.
