C„ THUSDAY, JUNE 30, 1966 VOLUME XVII] Const Guard Air Search Underway For Missing New Bern Pair Assault Case Heads Jones Court Action Recorder’s Court tried nine cases in the past week the ma jority being traffic violations. Ed Green of Rt. 1, Trenton, pled guilty to assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenc ed to 18 months in the county jail suspended on the condition he pay $835 for a hospital bill and the court’s costs and remain on probation for five years. James Floyd Harriet of Rt. 3 New Bern was found not guil ty of reckless driving. Johnny Jones of Rt 2 Trenton paid $21 for driving without his driver’s license. Clarence -Williams of Route 2 Trenton paid $13 for failure to see intended, move ment could be made safely. Orin Haywood Weeks, Jr. of 1105 Walker Driver, Kinston paid $31 for speeding. Kenneth Dillahunt of Star Rt. Maysville presented his valid driver’s license after he was charged with driving without one. Mary West of Trenton Rt. 2 paid $13 for driving on the wrong side of the road. The plaintiff withdrew the warrant against Raymond Hat chale of Maysville charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The case of non-support against Ernest Burton of Maysville was nol pressed with leave by the state. Suit Filed in Jones Court Asking For Access Road A suit was filed last week in Jones County Superior Court by James B. McMullan, who is seeking an access road to prop erty he owns. McMullan is suing for property rights to land he considers necessary in running a private road from his proper ty to a public road. He alleges he needs land be longing to James M. Bender and wife, Julia Bender, Virgil Ben der and wife, \ Penny Bender, Mary L. Bender, Eugene Bend er, and wife, Wenona Bender, Bryan Bender, Jr. and wife Elaine Bender, Bryan Mark Bender, Wade Bender, and Mi chael Bender. The proposed road also cross es the Croatan National Forest. Federal officials have agreed to grant him a right of way. McMullan alleges he plans to cultivate the inaccessible land, and therefore, it is necessarAo have a private way to a public road. He petitions for the court to appoint a jury of three to assess the land which he will cross. Also filed in the past week was an action of J. T. Taylor, trading as Taylor Lumber Com pany vs. George L. Pierce and Heber Jones. The Lumber Com pany alleges trespassing, re moval of a quantity of timber ' at 1256 by the two men. Two New Bern persons were reported missing Sunday in a private plane on the North Caro lina coast The four-seater Ces sna plane left the New Bern air port at 9:20 ' Sunday morning, stopped at Hatteras, then left for Manteo, where the pilot Le roy French planned to fish. Mrs. Lindsay McGroaty was French’s only passenger. The Coast Guard was notified by the pilot of a companion plane that the craft was missing. The companion plane turned back when it hit rough weather. An air search is underway froin Manteo to Cape Hatteras for the missing pair. Deans List at UNC Includes Wilson Lowery, Jr. For the last semester this year, at UNC Chapel Hill branch, Wilson Lowery Jr. of Trenton made straight A’s on all subjects which entitled him to Dean’s list recognition. He graduated from UNC in June with a degree in business admin istration, but will continue in school to work on a Master’s De gree. Four Jones Arrests In the past week Sheriff Brown Yates reported the arrest of Benjamin Davis of Rt. 3, Kins ton for breaking and entering. Three New Members Elected to Jones Board in Second Primary Jones county voted tnree new members to the Board of County July 3 Horse Show The Most Hill Ruritan Club is sponsoring a Horse Show Sun day, July 3, 1:00 at Moss Hill School. The charge for admis sion is 50c for children and $1.00 for adults. A $1.00 entry fee for each class entered will be charged. Five ribbons will be awarded winners of each class with points toward tro phies. There are sixteen possi ble categories of competition. Probable cause was found in recorder’s court on Friday. Bond was set at $300. Davis awaits trial in the September term of Superior Court. John Eubanks of Trenton Rt. 2 was arrested for driving drunk. Alford Jennings of Trenton Rt. 1 and Jack Metts of Comfort were both charged with being drunk and disorder ly in their respective homes. Commissioners in the second democratic primary last Satur day. W. Denford Eubanks ran high with a total of 1296 votes. Second in line was Charles Battle, Jr., incumbent, totaling 1249 votes for his victory. Running third in the race was Clifton Eugene Hood tallying 1214 votes. Fourth in the race was incum bent James Barbee with 1133 votes. Horace B. Phillips ran fifth with a total of 1050. Incumbents Harold C. Mallard and P. Nelson Banks ran sixth and seventh totaling 981 and 914 votes respectively in their try to return. Harry C. Mallard ran eighth with 738 votes and ninth was Leslie Dewey Strayhom with 469 votes. In the Board of Education run off Walter Ives was placed into office by tallying 875 votes ov er Benjamin Gray’s count of 746. Jones Central High School Scholarship Winners warn mm mmmmMm I .'
