July is 'usually hot and dry in
most sections of the state but
there are many garden jobs to
be accomplished, especially look
ing after the water requirements
of all plants and turf grasses. If
you planted evergreens last
spring, they will suffer unless
you apply water.
Remove faded flowers from
snapdragons, phlox, delphinium
and crepe myrtle. This prevents
seed formation, an exhausting
plant process; and will make
them bloom longer.
If you have, earlier in the
season, looked after the fertiliz
er requirements of your lawn, it
is best not to apply fertilizer at
this time because it may en
courage weeds more than grass.
Water regularly during prolong
ed dry periods.

SINGLE INSECTICIDE APPLICATION
: CONTROLS FLIES UP TO 2 MONTHS
Pew livestock producers realize the importance of controlling
lies on their premises. In addition to spreading manjr diseases,
hese annoying pests can seriously hamper efficient weight gains
tnd milk production.
Now, many livestockmen throughout the country report excep
aonal long-lasting central of flies with a unique new insecticide,
known as Cygon. <
Beginning the day after application, Cygon eliminates these
gests continuously for up to 8 weeks or longer. Thus, as little as
two applications can provide protection against these insects for
m entire season. By saving labor normally devoted to more
frequent repeat applications of other insecticides, this material
significantly reduces the overall cost qf a fly control program.
Even species of flies which have developed resistance tp other
insecticides are effectively controlled, according to research
studies and field use on commercial farms.
Thus, an ever-increasing number of authorities are recom
mending use of the new long-lasting insecticide around feed lots
and corrals, in dairy barns, hog pens and poultry houses—in
fact, wherever flies tend to breed and gather.__ _
