Rev. L. C. Swink, pastor, will lead the service. Rev. Ralph If. Lewis, a former pastor, wtii de liver the morning message. Rev. R. Grady Dawson, district super intendent, will ho in charge of the act of dedication. Following the morning service there will he a picnic itBqner served on the church lawn. The Pollocksville €hurch building was bought from the Disciple Church in' 1918 for about $600. Harring ton, J; A. Cooper, C. E. Ruffin, L. A. Green and L. CL Swink. During the years since the building was bought from the Disciple Church, the Methodists have conducted a regular week ly Sunday - School. There have been only three Sunday School superintendents to serve the chwch: Frank (Tobe) Foy, George R. Hughes and William Griffin. The first Missionary Society was headed by Mrs. Nellie Tay lor, and this was followed by the Ladies Aid and tjie Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service. The Methodist Men’s Club was form ed in, 1956. A Youth Fellowship whs formed in 1930 and has been active since. Since the time the church building was acquired, it has been completely remodeled. The original church contained a ves tibule and one large sanctuary room. All the Sunday School classes met in individual sec tions each Sunday in the sanc tuary. During the pastorate of H. L. Harris, 1937-41, new windows in an opalescent color were install ed. After the adjoining proper ty was acquired in 1950 from Leon F. Simmons, additional building was started. The origin al church building was moved over and back on the lot. Three new classrooms, two baths, a kitchen, hall, and a large social room were built onto the rear of the church. After completion of this work, the sanctuary was re modeled. Robert Aldridge, archi tect, designed the church build ing. It is interesting to note that > the original building is enclosed in the walls of the remodeled sanctuary and a new chancel and choir rooms were added to the original. Eleven Divorces in Hus Week's Court Among civil actions cleared during the current term of Jones County Superior Court are 11 divorces, all granted on grounds of separation. Mefts is charged with the'pis tol slaying of Roscoe Fields of 512 Harvey Street, who died in Lenoir Memorial Hospital Satur day night slightly more than an hour after suffering two .22 caliber pistol wounds in the front yard of his home at about 0:4S'p. m. Mefts admits the shooting but claims he was act ing in self dofense. f, , fig ' Wife Slayer Given 20 Years Tuesday I ' In Busy Week of Jones County Court Tuesday Curtis Turner from tfie Black Swamp end of Jones County pleaded guilty in open court to second degree murder in the shotgun slaying of his wife, Zorma Mae, on the night of September 15th. Judge H. L. Riddle of Morgan ton, who is presiding over the mixed term of court, questioned Turner at length in open court to determine if he knew the seriousness of the crime to which he was pleading guilty, if he had been fully advised of his rights by his attorney, if he had been made any promises by any one of special consideration if he did plead guilty. When Turner admitted that all of his constitutional rights had been carefully protected Judge Riddle sentenced him to a term of 20 years in prison. In other actions in the first part of the week Albert Griffin Jr. paid court costs for failing to stop for a stop sign and had a nolle pros entered in a charge of disposing of mortgaged proper ty. A nolle pros was taken in an assault with deadly weapon charge against Robert Whitfield. An auto theft charge against Richard Wainwright was also nolle prossed but he was order ed to make good a worthless check and pay court costs. An appeal to the state su preme court by Hezekiah Mur rell, administrator of the estate of Augustus Baines, was dis missed because the appeal had not been filed in proper time. The suit was for damages against Jesse Baines. Robert Humphrey was given a choice of two years in prison or paying $120 per month for support of his family. James Odell Williams Jr. paid costs for speeding. Robert Graham was found not guilty of driving too fast for ex isting roadway conditions. Melvin Lee Shoup paid $25 and costs for reckless driving. Junior Duncan had to make good a bad check and pay court costs. Frederick Jones was first fined $500 for drunken driving but the fine was later reduced to $100. Ed Green was given six months in prison for assault with a deadly weapon. Benjamin Davis had a 6-month term for breaking and entering suspended on condition of 3 year probation and payment of $67 to Walter Simmons. Albert Grady had a 2-year term for assault on a female suspended on condition he not beat his wife and children again and pay court costs. James Gaskins Rodman was found guilty of three charges of driving without a license and one charge of resisting arrest; for which he had a 12-month term suspended on payment of a $50 fine, court costs and the condition he not molest any of ficer for two years. Morris Carwell Rivenbark had a 2-year jail term suspended for a„4th drunken driving charge and for driving while his license was revoked. He was also order ed to pay a $500 fine and two court costs. Jesse Clinton Gray had a 6 month term suspended for drunken driving on payment of a $100 fine. Claim Deliveries Filed in Past Week Two “claim delivery” charges have been filed in Jones County Superior Court during the past week, according to Clerk Walter Henderson. The Smith-Douglass Fertilizer Company filed such an action against Isaiah and Cora Cox for a 'delinquent account, under which the company seeks to claim numerous personal pro perty items covered in a chat tel mortgage that covered the fertilizer debt. Commercial Credit Corpora tion has filed such an action against Sarah Riggs Gray, seek ing to collect $2,045 as the bal ance due on a car loan or the possession of the car. Recorder's Court Clears 27 Cases From Docket in Past Week Sessions Trial Deiore judge joe tsecion or pleas of guilty before Clerk Walter Henderson cleared 27 cases from the calendar of Jones County Recorder’s Court. Five assault charges were nolle prossed against Durham Lee of Trenton, Harold and Brent Lee of Kinston route 3, A. D. King of Richlands and Willie Griffin of Kinston route 3. Roland Houston of Kinston' route 3 paid court costs for as sault. All the other cases involved motor vehicle -violations. Ed Jones of Maysville ap pealed a $100 fine for drunken driving. Henry Lee Bruinton of Mays ville route 1 was found not guil ty of failure to yield right of way, Gene Curtis Lamm of New Bern was found not guilty of speeding and Richard Morris Moore of Cherry Point was found not guilty of reckless driving. Speeding fines were paid by William Alfred Millander of Jacksonville, Albert Robert Rich ardson of Jacksonville route 1, Joseph Mears of Whiteville, Os car Owens Fornes of Maysville star route, Jesse Calvin Grims ley of Savannah, Ga., Johnny Witherford Thompson of Sum ter, S. Patrie of Portsmouth, Va., Thurman Grady of Kinston and Roger Manning Davidson of Roanoke Rapids. Paying court costs for less serious traffic violations were Elbert Lee Adams of Trenton route 2, Alfred Lewis Lawson of Camp Lejeune, J. V. Dobbs of Swansboro, Augustus Loftin of New Bern, and Daniel Warren Duff of Pink Hill route 2. Maysville Rotary Hear Youth Corps Officias Last Week On Tuesday, September 20, Maysville Rotary Club met for its usual weekly meeting, which began with supper and was fol lowed by a business session. After the business session, William Evans, Director of The Neighborhood Youth Corps, Cra ven Operation Progress, spoke to the club concerning the program with which he and Robert Monte, Executive Director of Coastal Operation Progress, are affiliat ed.
