The fire, which was caused by an overheated oil-heater, was brought under control with 1500 gallons of water. Some clothes and the contents of the deep freezer were saved, but not be fore the roof was partially de stroyed and the house complete ly gutted. The frame dwelling valued at $3,000 was financed and had some insurance coverage and the household contents valued at $1,000, not insured, were all con sidered a total loss. According to Fire Chief Ed ward Eubanks the fire started when Dixon lit the heater, went out to work and left the oil-heat er which overheated and set the house on fire. Gloria Lee of Route 1 Trenton was the first person to see the fire. She re ported it to Allen Davenport of the Frendship Community who called the Fire Department in Trenton. Rockets Roar in 46-7 Victory Over North Duplin; East Duplin Friday Jones Central’s Rockets finally broke loose Friday night and ran rampant as they buried the Rebels of North Duplin under an avalanche of touchdowns and extra points, 46-7. The Rockets, who have been frustrated since early in the gridiron season, began to re lease some of their tensions im mediately in the first quarter when they moved 51 yards in eight plays for a quick tally. Halfback William Hawkins, who had four touchdowns for the night, scampered 11 yards for the Rockets’ first score. The Rebels had their brief mo ment of advantage in the second quarter when Jimmy Thompson passed 13 yards to Ricky Bell capping a 63-yard drive for the lone Rebel touchdown. Bell kicked the PAT and North Dup lin hung up their scoring shoes for good. It was,Rockets all the way the rest of the game as Hawkins took the Rebel kickoff and dash ed down the sidelines 80 yards for a touchdown. Randy Banks kicked the first of four out of seven extra point attempts. The Rockets then took a North Duplin punt on the Rebel’s 44 yard line and moved into pay dirt again in five plays. Half back Leslie Strayhorn had a 26 yard run in the drive, and full back Joby Arthur carried for the touchdown on an eight-yard run. The PAT was good. After the halftime break the Rockets came back even strong er as Hawkins intercepted a North Duplin aerial at the Jones Central 48-yard line to set up another Rocket score. During the ensuing drive quarterback Dalton Ange passed to end Jim my Smith far 29 yards, and Haiw kins got the touchdown on an eight-yard run. Banks kicked the PAT. Early in the final period in (Vhich' the, Rockets seemed to get even atronger as they scored - 19 points, Hawkins had runs of 37 and 16 yards in a 69-yard Jones Central drive that Haw kins topped with a six-yard touchdown jaunt. Banks extra point was again good. Later in the period Jones Central got the ball on the North Duplin 38. Arthur ran seven yards for the touchdown. The final tally came on an 11-yard run by Strayhorn that ended a 68-yard Rocket drive. Strayhorn also had an 11-yard run during the march into the end zone. Banks missed the last two PAT attempts. Halfback William Hawkins scored four touchdowns and gained 108 yards rushing in 10 carries for a 10.8 yard average per carry. The Rockets are host to East Duplin this Friday night for the Homecoming Game at 8. Blue Devils Roll Over South Ayden 34-7 as 'Hindu' Ward Scores Four Halfback Carson “Hindu” Ward scored four touchdowns Friday night, matching the four he scored last week, as he led the Jones High Blue Devils to a smashing 34r7 triumph over South Ayden. The one other Blue Devil touchdown came on Franklin Brown’s 99-yard kickoff return of the second half kickoff. Ward, a six-foot 170-pound senior back field mainstay all season, gain ed over 100 yards rushing and scored on plunges of one, two, three, and four yards. South Ayden got the first score of the game on an 80-yard drive in the first quarter. The single scoring insult against their defense was enough to get the Blue Devils’ offense in gear and rolling as they drive 65 yards early in the second period that saw quarter-back Kenny Brown pass 18 yards to flanker Raymond Cox for the big play of the series. Ward ran the final two yards for the touchdown and fullback Lester Perry ran the extra point. Ward dived one yard to cap another Blue Devil scoring drive in the second period and again Perry ran the extra point. Brown, a junior, then opened the second half with his 99-yard jaunt and Ward ran the extra point.
