THE JONES COUNTY TRENTON C„ THURSDAY, APRIL 25, 1968 VOLUME XIX Robert T. Nobles i Honored at State University WBm Jones Co i Chpin, North initated into Golden honor society at Wednesday. Robert T. Noble, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Noble of Rt. 2, Dover, was one of a dozen NCSU stu dents to win the top honors. A junior majoring in the demanding electrical engineering curriculm, Noble has earned a long series of honors at NSCU. He has been chosen for membership in the national honorary society Phi Kappa Phi. He has served as president of Tau Beta Pi, engineering honor organiza tion. Noble gave notice of his abilities at NSCU as a freshman when he was elected to Phi Eta Sigma, national freshmen honor organization. He also holds membership in Eta Kappa Nu, honor society. In the School of Engineering, seventh largest in the U. S., he served on the Engineers Council, student governing body. In five separate semesters, he has earned a place on the Dean’s List for outstanding grades. Noble is secretary of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, at NSCU, the student chapter of the national professional association. He is a graduate of Jones Central High School. Sunday Night Shooting in White Oak Section Injures One Man Seriously At about 7 Sunday night a shooting, following an argument on the Lake Ellis Road in Croa tan Forest resulted in the critical injury of one man and indict ment of another. Sheriff Brown Yates reports that Johnny Hill suffered the injury from a shotgun blast al legely inflicted by Theodore Smith of Pollocksville. Hill was taken to Craven County Hospital where he was given emergency treatment and then transferred to Duke Hos pital in an effort to save his leg . . Smith is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with in tent to kill, pending Hill’s re covery. No date has been set for a hearing in the matter. Other persons booked at the county jail during the past week included Wilbur Metts of Com fort who was accused of public Grants Extradition Monday Virginia Governor Miles Godwin approved the im mediate extradition of Martin David Rochelle to North Caro lina, where he and Richard Ro desky of Montgomery, Alabama are charged with the February 7th murder and robbery of Jones County ABC Store Manager Albert J. Jones Jr. of Maysville. The two under indictment were drunkenness and disorderly con duct and Henry Moore of Pol locksville who was accused of simple public drunkenness. Judge LaHtins Gives Active Prison Terms, Heavy Fines, Long Probation To Defendants in Hail Fraud Cases In federal district court at New Bern last week Judge John: Larkins levied fines totalling $17,500, ordered restitution to talling $71,611.67, gave short active prison terms and five years probation to all 12 de fendants in mail fraud charges that grew out of hail fraud cases largely centered in Lenoir Coun ty Each of the 12 was given a 5 year suspended term and each was placed on 5-year probation at the end of his active prison terms. Active prison terms, fines and amounts of restitution for each defendant were as fol lows: John Elmore one year, $2,000 fine and $19,324.92 restitution. Willie Hudson 100 days, $1,000 fine and $1,023.05 restitution. Floyd Gray Jr. six months, $2,000 fine and $1,590.32 restitu tion. Clifton Gray six months, $2, 000 fine and $3,956.74 restitu tion. G. W. Gardner six months, $1, 000 fine and $17,612.76 restitu tion. J. W. Poole six months, $1,000 fine and $2,220.80 restitution. Willie J. Smith six months, $1,000 fine and $1,955.96 resti tution. Earl Eubanks six months, $2/ 000 fine and $4,798.99 restitu tion. Lyman Edwards six months, $2„000 fine and $10,226.50 resti tution. J. W. Roberts 30 days, $1,000 fine and $6,965.27 restitution. Howard Rouse until May 1st in jail, $500 fine and $836.36 restitution. W. C. Stafford 120 days, $1,000 fine and $1,100 restitution. It was not stated, but it was considered likely by court ob servers that additional indict ments will be returned against others that were incriminated during the taking of testimony in the trial of these 12 defendants. Green and a juvenile broke in the Mallard home week before last and helped themselves to whatever items of food and drink they found available. CLhcr Items from the court include a $20 fine to Wilbur Metts for being drunk and dis orderly, $200 fine and costs against Loyal Franklin of Pol locksville for driving while his license was revoked and fines and costs totalling $119 against Thelma Bowling McLawhorn of New Bern Route 3 who was charged with drunken driving. A charge of assault with a deadly weapon against Johnny George Jones of Trenton route 2 was nol prossed.
