Fall Cattle Auctions To Sell 38,600 Head Underway The annual Ml sales of feed er calves and yearling steers will begin Sept 17 with a total of 38.600 head expected to be auc tioned on 32 sales. The series of organized sales began on the 17th with a feed er calf sale at Oxford and a yearling steer sale at Asheville. Sam Buchanan, extension beef cattle specialist at North Caro lina State University, said this year’s sales will draw some 2,000 more cattle than were sold last fall Consignments indicate 22.600 head of feeders and 16, 000 head of yearlings will be sold. He added that current con ditions indicate that cattlemen should receive about the same price for their cattle as they did a year ago. The feeder prices last fall averaged $26.17 per hundredweight. Yearling steers averaged $24.06. The state sales are sponsored by the N. C. Cattlemen’s Associ ation, N. C. Department of Ag riculture and the N. C. Agricul tural Extension Service. Local producers and livestock markets cooperate. EDWARDS FnneralHome BUZ SAWYER .
