T Lenoir Countian Murdered in Holdup Men in Charlotte, Stepson Shot Too Mecklenburg County authori ties are seeking two young col ored men who gunned down 33 year-old Linwood Daniel Suggs and his 14 year - old Stepson Johnny Porch Saturday night at a Charlotte filling station. SUggs died on the way to a hospital but Porch survived al though in very critical condi tion from bullet wounds in the neck and arm, which have left him paralyzed over most of his body. Charlotte officials say the two armed men told Suggs: “This is a stick up” and then fired at least five bullets into his body. Young Porch, who was inside the filling station, ran out when National 4-H Week Set Oct. 5-11 North Carolina’s 60,000 4-H members and 15,000 adult lead ers will share the spotlight Oct. 5-11 with more than three mil lion youth in 50 states and Puerto Rico. The occasion will be National 441 Week. The theme of the special ob servance is “4-H: Opportunity for All,” according to Dr. T. C. Blalock, state 4H leader at N. C. State University. “Our em phasis will be pointing out how 4-H benefits all boys and' girls ages 9 to 19, of all cultural, ra cial and economic backgrounds and also to youth who live in town as well as in the country.” The state 4-H leader said each Tar Heel county would plan ac tivities during National 4-H Week to: — Encourage more youth to take advantage of 4-H opportu nities. — Urge more men and wom en to volunteer as 4-H leaders, and to enrich their own lives in addition to serving youth. ,— Recognize the important contribution of parents to 4hH, and influence their continued cooperation. — Acknowledge the support of 4-H friends and express ap preciation to them. — Report the year’s accom plishments and consider future needs and plans. The 4-H program is part of the national educational system of the Cooperative Extension Service. Tar Heel 4-H’ers receive training through programs con ducted by N. C. State Universi ty and the N. C. Agricultural Ex tension Service through county agricultural and home econo mics agents. Suggs was a native of Lenoir County, a grandson of Mrs. Cletn mie White in the Sand Hill Township section of Northeast Lenoir County. The murder - robbery netted the thieves less than $200.
