) Mon Indicted 39 Times in Past 14 Years Charged in Kinston's First Traffic Death in Mere Than Two Years At 4:20 Saturday afternoon two year-old Tony Moore of 1102 Sasser Street was instantly kill ed whan he was struck as he played in the front yard of his home by a car driven by Vincent Newkirk of 116 Broadway Street. And with the d^ath of this lit te son of Mrs. Jean Moore the longest period in modem times without a traffic death inside the limits of Kinston came to an end; more than two and a half years. Newkirk told investigating of ficers that he swerved to avoid hitting children who he said were playing in the street. The officers indicted Newkirk on charges of manslaughter, drunken driving, reckless driv ing and driving a car without proper brakes. Since Newkirk came to Kins ton in 1956 he has been indict ed 39 times; and 15 of those indictments have involved mot or vehicle violations. The most recent of his indict ments was on January 28, 1969 when he was charged with speed ing too fast for existing road way conditions, at which time he was ordered to pay the court costs and surrender his driving license for for 90 days.
