Shrum of Charlotte, N. C., became the bridd of Mr. E. C. Beatty, Jr., son of &lr. and Mrs. El C. Beatty, of Moimt Holly, N. C. The wed ding took place at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Boyce K^istler, on Oakdale Koad. Rev. John Carter, pastor of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, officiat ed, using the double ring cere mony. The vows were spoken before a background of ivy and white gladioli with seven branched can delabra holding lighted tapers. The bride wore a navy sxiit and hat with black accessories and a shoulder corsage of white orchids. The mother of the bride wore a black suit with black accessor ies and a corsage of pink rose buds. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black suit with black ac cessories and a corsage of pink rosebuds. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Shrum entertained at' a reception for the bride and groom at the home of Mrs. Boyce Keistler. Arrangements of white flowers were used throughout the home. The table was covered with a lace cloth and was cen tered by a two-tiered wedding cake with white tapers at each end of the -table. Assisting at the reception were Miss Christina Shrum, Mrs. Her man Todd and Miss Harriet Todd. Mrs.' Boyce Keistler kept the bride’s register. Mrs. Beatty was graduated from the Thomasboro High School and is now employed in the Ac counting Department of the Southern Bell Tel. 8c Teh Co. Mr. Beatty was graduated from the Moimt Holly High School, attended Belmont Abbey, and served two years in the U. S. Army Air Force and is now em ployed at the U. S. Post Office of Stanley, N. C. Approximately sixty guests at tended the wedding and recep tion. Mrs. Jones, Cooper Give Bridge Party On last Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Joe Jones and Mrs. Paul Cooper entertained at Mrs. Coo per’s home with a lovely dessert bridge. Appropriate cut flowers decorated the home. Those present were Mrs. Ken neth Ford and Mrs. Lee Dagen- hart of Belmont, Mrs. Gordon Eaves, Mrs. Leo Fuller,' Mrs. Rob ert Cook, Mrs. Frank Brown, Mrs. Ward Rhyne, Mrs. Frank McKin ney, Mrs. Richard Scott, Mrs. Charles Holtzclaw, Mrs. Bob Freeze, Mrs. Ed Batchelor, Mrs. James Benton, Mrs. A. U. Stroupe, Jr., Mrs. David Mason, Mrs. Sam Allison, Mrs. Joe Wright, Mrs. A. W. Bell, Mrs. Frank Rankin, and Mrs. H. Mack Dellinger. Mrs. J. W. Austin was invited in for refreshments. The prizes were awarded to Mrs. Robert Cook for high score, to Mrs. Sam Allison for second high, and the floating prize to Mrs. Richard Scott. During the progressions, Coca- Colas were served. New Year’s favors were given to the guests. RETURN FROM SANFORD Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Rankin returned Monday from a visit of several days with Mrs. Rankin’s mother, Mrs. L. H. Lawrence at Sanford. Mrs. Lawrence, who re cently sustained a broken hip in a fall, has returned home from a Raleigh hospital, and is improv ing nicely. ANNOUNCE BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas- son, Jr. of Pelzer, S. C. announce the birth of a daughter on Jan uary 4th. Her name is Jean Marie. HERE FOR VISIT Mrs. Joe Roberts has arrived here for an extended stay with her daughter, Mrs. Max L. Child ers and Mr. Childers. Mrs. Rob erts has been visiting her son, Joe Roberts, Jr. and Mrs. Roberts in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and other' relatives in Mississippi. GO TO PELZER Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Thomasson, Sr. and Mrs. William Hoffman and son were weekend visitors to Pelzer. They went especially to see their grand-daughter. IN CHARLOTTE Mrs. C. W. Pierce spent Tues day in Charlotte with Mrs. W. C. Howe. VISIT IN LOWELL Mrs. Clyde Murphy and baby son spent Monday in Lowell visiting the former’s mother, Mrs. Sam Wright. HERE FOR SUNDAY Mr. and Mrs. Jennings Austin and son, Jennings, Jr. of Union County spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. James W. Austin. SUNDAY DINNER GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. A. R. JOHN ALBERT BARRETT, Jr. On Monday, December 26, 1949 a double wedding ceremony was held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Beal on 2232 Cranford Road in Durham. The weddings took place at two o’clock in the after noon, with Rev. William H. Brownlee, officiating. The ceremony united Miss Hel en Vance Beal and Mr. John Al bert Barrett, Jr., and Miss Bar bara Bicknell Beal and Mr. Fred Starr Bergman. Both couples used the double ring ceremony. The two former Miss Beals are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Beal of Durham. Mr. John Al bert Barrett, Jr., is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Barrett of Mount Holly. Mr. Bergman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Bergman of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Barrett attended Duke University, Peter Brent Brigham, School of Nursing in Boston, Croft’s Secretarial School, and is at present employed at Duke Hos pital Mr. Barrett is a senior at Duke University, having served three years in the Army Medical Corps. Mrs. Bergman is a senior at Duke University and has been ac tive in the symphony orchestra during her four years. Mr. Bergman is a rtudent at N. C. State after having spent two years in the Navy. Following the ceremony, a re ception was held for the families of the two couples and out-of- town guests. Out-of-town guests attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bergman, Mrs. Fred O’Bnan and Pat O’Brian of Winston-Salem, and Miss Elizabeth Stockton of Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Morgan Hostess To Bridge Club Friday Mrs. C. O. Morgan of Clover, S. C., formerly of this place, was hostess to her bridge club Friday afternoon, entertaining at the Comer Cupboard in Gastonia. Club members playing were Mrs. W. G. McElduff, and her daughter, Mrs. Thad Lawing of Riverbend. A beautiful birthday cake grac ed the center of the table which was over-laid with a lace table cloth. Fellowship Club Met Tuesday Evenjng On Tuesday evening, at the church, me Fellowship Club of the First Presbyterian Church held a supper meeting. The meal was serv^ by Circle No. 3. The devotional was given by Mrs. Ivey Henkle. A travelogue was shown in technicolor of the New England states. A large attendance of club members was present. As special guests. Rev. and Mrs. Donald O. Meinnis, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Freeze, and Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Scoggins were present. Mrs. T. M. Holland Gives Dessert Bridge On Thursday evening, at 7:30 p. m., Mrs. Thomas M. Holland entertained her bridge club at a dessert bridge. The party was given in her home on Oakland Street, and the house was 'beau tifully arrayed with flowers. The club members present were Miss Frances Pierce, Mrs. Court- land Hurt, Mrs. Cain Embrey, Mrs. Kenneth Jones, Mrs. J. B. Thompson, Mrs, Ted Johnson, Mrs. Claude Wilson Jr. of Bel mont and Mrs. Bob Cook was the guest of the club. When the scores were tallied, Mrs. Bob Cook won high score, Mrs. J. B. Thompson won the traveling prize, and the consola tion award went to Mrs. Ted Johnson. W.S.C.S. Convenes In Lowesville Home The Women’s Society of Chris tian Service of the Hills Chapel church, Lowesville, met at the home of Mrs. D. A. Hoover and Polly Warren on Friday night, January 6. Twenty-two members and one visitor and one new mem ber were present. A very inspiring program was presented by Mrs. lUrby Delling er, Mrs. Dennis Dellinger, Mrs. June Dellinger, Mrs. Keith Hag er, and Mrs. Polly Warren. After the business session a social was enjoyed while refres- ments were being served by the hostess. Mrs. Kenneth Jones Entertains Couples Last Tuesday evening, at 7:30 o’clock, Mrs. Kenneth Jones en tertained in her home. The oc casion was a dixmer-bridge, and diuring the course of the evening, three tables were in play. Gladioli were centered on the drop-leaf table in the living room. Mrs. Jones served dinner to the guests, after which bridge was played. Those present were Mr, and Mrs. J. B. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Holland, Mr. and Mrs. John Caulder, Mr. and Mrs. David Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Wally Thompson, Jr. When the scores were compiled, the high went to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Holland, and the low prize was awarded to Mr. and Mrs. David Smith.
