C. Browne and the late Mr. Browne of Mount Airy. The ceremony will take place Sunday afternoon, June 25, at 5:30 o’clock in Belmont Abbey Cathedral. Rev. Walter A. Cog- gin, O.S.B. of Belmont will offi ciate. The wedding music will be presented by Mrs. Thomas M. Holland, organist, and Miss Fran ces Warren of Burlington and Andy Birkner of Mount Airy, vocalists. Stone entertained at dinner Wednesday evening at her home, Highland Street at West Catawba Avenue, in honor of Miss Ann Connell, whose mar riage to Tom Browne of Mount Airy will take place June 28 at Belmont Abbey Cathedral. Arrangements of flowers from the garden of Mrs. Stone’s mother, Mrs. J. C. Cannon, de corated the home. In the livng room and the music room bowls of mixed summer flowers in pastel shades were used, and in the dining room the bride’s table was overlaid with a handsome imported banquet cloth, and cen tered with a ^wl of white blos soms flanked by lighted white tapers set in silver holders. Simi lar flowers and candles graced the buffet. Place cards ornamented with wedding Bells marked the places' of the guests, and dinner was served in three courses. The hostess presented to Miss Connell a gift of silver in her wedding pattern. Covers were laid for Miss Con nell and her mother, Mrs. E. W. Connell, the hostess and her mother, Mrs. Cannon, Miss Ruth Stone, Miss Helen Baxley, Miss Beatty, Mss Kitty Hall Moore, Miss Dorothy Kile, Mrs. C. Den nis Beatty, Mrs. Barbara Hovis, Mrs. J. P. Brides-Elect Honored At Dessert Bridge Mrs. Herman J. Cross and Mrs. Barbara Hovis were hostess Fri day evening at a dessert bridge and hearts party, entertaining at the Cross home in honor of two June brides-elect, Miss Anne Kendrick and Miss Ann Connell. The home was beautifully de corated for the occasion. In thfe living room the mantel held an all-whit^ arrangements of giant asters, carnations, gypsophila and feverfew, and bowls of roses, sweetpeas and double larkspur flanked by clusters of silver wedding bells tied with maline were vised at other points in the room. The dinnig room table was centered with a bowl of marconey daisies and sweetpeas flanked by silver candelbra set with white tapers, and arrangements of roses, snapdragons, sweetpeas and other early summer flowers were plac ed in the den. Individual tables were decorated with novelty cen ter pieces bearing the tables num bers, and ornamented with sprays of dainty blossoms in pastel shades. The dessert course con sisted of moulded bridal ices, in dividual cakes decorated in the bridal motif, and punch, and dur ing progressions the hostesses served salted nuts and diced drinks. Tallies and serviettes were decorated in the bridal motif, also. Guests included Miss Kendrick, Miss Connell and her mother, Mrs. E. W. CcmneU, Miss Dorothy Calvert, Miss Jean Barnette, Mrs. F. H. Mrs. Connell won high score at hearts. The honor guests received orchid shoulder bouquets and gifts of silver in their wedding patterns from their hostesses. VISIT IN RAUEGH Dr. and Mrs. L. S.'Clark drove to Raleigh on Tuesday of this week and spent the night there as guests of their daughter, Miss Laura Clark, who works in the N. C. State Registrar’s office. The Clarks returned to Mount Holly on Wednesday and were accom panied by their other daughter, Miss Sallie Clark, who has been a student at Meredith College this year. Miss Clark wil be home for the summer vacation. Mrs. Graham Ponder Feted Miss Kendrick Mrs. T. Graham Ponder was hostess last Thursday evening at bridge and canasta, entertaining at her home in Gastonia in honor of Miss Anne Kendrick of this place, whose wedding to John W. Brinkley of Fayetteville will be an event of Saturday, June iO. Arrangements of mixed sum mer flowers decorated the rooms, and refreshments were served by the hostess, who also presented an honor gift to Miss Kendrick. A bowl of mixed flowers cen tered the table and novelty place markers ornamented with hearts in pastel shades were used. Miss Kendrick received a shoulder bouquet of gardenias and a gift of silver from the hostesses, and each guest received a favor. Covers were laid for the host esses, the honor guest. Miss Fran ces Kendrick, Miss Ruth Craig, Miss Betty Lou Moore, Mrs. Tho mas M. Holland and Mrs. William Hoffman, of Mount Holly, Mrs. W. F. Welborn, Jr. of Lexington, and Mrs. Charles Ponder of Charlotte. DANCE TO BE HELD . A formal dance of the Teen- Age Canteen will be held at the Lions Club on Saturday, tomor row, night. The dance will start at eight o’clock and will terminate at eleven. The admission is free and refreshments wil be served. All teen-agers are cordially in vited to atend as this dance is for them. Chaperones wil be on- hand. Surprise Party- Honored Elderly Dady Mrs. Alice Womac was hdnored on ^le^ 76th birthday by her child ren who gave her a surprise birth day dinner on Sunday, June 4th. The dinner was given at her home in the Pilot Knob area in Lowes- ville. Those present for the occasion were Mr. Alexander Womac of the home, Mr .and Mrs. Clinton Keever of Mount Holly, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Huskins, Richard and Archie, of Iron Station, Mr. Walker Huskins of Winter Haven, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Houston Jones and Gray of Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Stroupe, Betty and Marie of Iron Station, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Howie and Dorothy Ann of Stanley. Everyone enjoyed the dinner, which was served picnic style, and all heartily appreciated the opportunity to share Mrs. Wo- mac’s 76th anniversary. Bridge Club Met With Mrs. Jenkins Mrs. R. L. Farrar, Sr. and her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Gallup of Sanford entertained with one of the loveliest luncheons of the season Wednesday in the private dining room at Mecklenburg Hotel, Charlotte in honor of Miss Anne Kendrick, whose marriage to John W. Brinkley of Fayette ville will be an event of Saturday evening at First Methodist Church. The bride’s table was centered with a beautiful arrangement of pink carnations, blue delphinium, white feverfew, white gypsophila and pink larkspur in a chrystal bowl, and place cards were ornamented with miniature pink wedding bells and dainty sprays of pink and blue flowers. Miss Kendrick’s place was marked with a nosegay corsage of pink feathered carnations centered with blue delphinium posed on a background of pink net. The honor guest received electric percolator as a gift from her hostesses, and Miss Ann Con nell, bride-elect of June 25, was remembered with a linen lunch eon set.
