Friday, D«c. 22. 1950 Brown-Holt Vows Spoken In Durham Miss Doris Brown of Whitakers and Andrew Seaton Holt, III of Durham, formerly of Mount Holly, exchanged marriage vows in a ceremony of beauty and impres siveness taking place Saturday afternoon, December 16 at the Whitakers Baptist Church. The ritual was read by the Rev. Mr. Peacock, pastor of the church. For the ceremony the altar was decorated with a. background of long leaf pine and seven-branched candelabra set with lighted cathe dral tapers, before which stood large floor baskets » f white chrys anthemums and gladioli. Prior to the ceremony the church organist presented a pro gram of nuptial music, and Bill Thompson of this place ,uncle of the bridegroom, sang “I Love You Truly” by Bond. Traditional marches were used as procession al and recessional, and uring the exchange of vows “To a Wild Rose” by MacDowell was played. C. B. Brown gave his* daughter in marriage, and the bridegroom had as his best man his father, A. S. Holt, Jr., of Durham. Ed Holt of Durham, the bridegroom’s brother, lighted the candles. The bride wore a two-piece wool suit in the navy shade with cinnamon blouse and accessories, and a shoulder bouquet of deep yellow rosebuds. Mrs. Brown, the bride’s mother, wore a black suit with matching accessories: and a shoulder bou quet of red rosebuds. The bride groom’s mother, Mrs. Holt, wore forest green crepe with grey ac cessories and a shoulder bouquet of pink rosebuds. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Brown, was graduated from the North Carolina Institute for the Blind at Raleigh, and dur ing her high school years was: a member of the glee club and the orchestra. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Holt, Jr., of Durham, formerly i^sidents of Mount Hol ly, attended the Mount Holly Schools and was also graduated from the Institute for the Blind. At the Institute he was president of the student body, and an out standing athlete, having been an exceptionally successful wrestler. He was also a member of the glee club and the orchestra. While at the Institute he won a scholar ship to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he is bow a member of the freshman class. This' fall he was awarded a trophy at Carolina for outstand ing wrestling. The young couple will be at . home in Chapel HilL Attending the wedding from Mount Holly were the bride groom’s aimt, airs. P. D. Moore and Mr. Moore, and Bill Thomp- ron. IN LOVELY HOME WEDDING Mrs. Gordon Eaves Tuckaseege Ladies Fetes Bridge Club Mrs. Gordon Eaves was hostess Friday evening at her home in Vernon Park to member of her bridge club and additional guests; entertaining with a dessert bridge. Four tables were set up amid a colorful display of Christmas decorations, and centering each individual table was a miniature Christmas tree bearing the table number. When the guests arrived covers were laid and the hostess seryed prettily appointed dessert course. Bridge progressions were enjoyed throughout the evening, and when cards were laid aside and scores tallied, Mrs. Harry M. Thompson of Belmont proved to bf tbr winner of the high score prize for club members, and Mrs. B. Borrmann for the guests. Miss Dorothy Kile won the bingo prize and the slam prize was awarded to Mrs. T. A. Dunn, Jr. Club members enjoying the hospitality were Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Maxwell Hoyle, Mrs. Max L. Childers, Mrs. Harry M. Thomp son, Jr., Miss Kile, Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Bob Cook and Miss Topsey Dunn. Guests were Mrs. James J. Bramhall, Jr., Mrs. Frank H. Mc Kinney, Mrs. Borrmann, Mrs. Paul Anderson, Mrs. Clyde Lof- tin, Mrs. J. Courtland Hurt, Mrs. J. B. Thompson and Mrs. W. M. Crist, Jr. Itir. and Mrs. H. J. Cherry and daughter, Ann, are spending the Christmas holidays touring Flori da. ' Miss Nancy Elizabeth Garrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben jamin A .Garrison of Mount Hol ly, became the bride of Sidney S. Rhyne, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs’, Sidney S. Rhyne of Charlotte, in a ceremony of beauty Rriday aft ernoon at 5:30 o’clock at the home of the bride’s parents on Mountain Island road. Mount Hol ly. Dr. L. Spurgeon Clark, pastor of Mount Holly Baptist church, officiated. The vows were spoken before an improvised altar before the fireplace, with a background of Areca palms, interspersed with seven-branched candelbara hold ing white tapers. On the mantel was a large arrangement of white gladioli and plumosus, centered with a maline wedding bell. Ar rangements of white flowers and greenery were also used in the music room. Praseot Music Harold P. Garrison, cousin of the bride and vocalist, sang “Be cause,” by d'Hardelot, and “O, Perfect Love,” by Baomby.' Mrs, Thomas M. Holland, pianist, play ed “Intermezzo” by Provost, “Clair de Lune” by Debussy, and “Nocturne” by Chopin. ‘To A Wild Rose” by MacDowell was played during the ceremony. It’s the season for jollity. Let’s share it The couple entered together. The bride wore a ballerina-length dress of bridal blue French em broidered lace over taffeta fash ioned with fitted bodice and fqll skirt. She wore matching mitts, and a bridal Mue hat trimmed with small flowers, each centered with a pearl. She carried a white satin-covered prayer book topped with a white (xchid and feather ed carnations and sho.wered with satin streamers and carnation petals. Miss Bette Garrison, sister of the bride and maid of honor, wore a ballerina-length dress' of bridal blue taffeta fashioned after that of the bride, and carried a small colonial bouquet of flowers in shades of pink and blue mixed with maline. In her hair she wore a small spray of pink rosebuds. James William Pangle of Char- lottle, was best man. Thelda Rhyne of Charlotte, sis ter of the bridegroom, lighted the candles. She wore a ^ess similar to that of the maid of honor. She also wore a spray of pink rose buds in her hair. Mrs. Garrison, mother of the bride, wore a dress of deep brown velvet with cocoa lace yoke and long sleeves of cocoa lace. She v.’bre a shoulder bouquet of orchids. Mrs. Rhyfld, mother of the bridegfbbm,- wore a dress of hy&bmth blue crepe with a shoul der bouquet of orchids. Receptioa At Heme A small reception was held at the home after the ceremony. The table was covered by an import ed lace cloth and was centered by a wedding cake flanked by candles and ivy. Assisting in serving cake, punch, and accessories, were Mrs. W. G. Henson and Mrs. Clyde L. Graham, aunts of the bride. The couple left later for a wedding trip to Florida, after which they will be at home in their new home near Charlotte, For traveling she wore a Joselli suit of pastel tweeds with pan tomime accessories and an orchid shoulder bouquet. The bride was graduated from Mount Holly High school, attend ed Lenoir Rhyne college, and is now employed in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Mecklenburg County. The bridegroom was graduated from Berryhill High school, serv ed in the Navy 18 months, and is now employed with Southern Railway company. HERE FOR CHRISTMAS Miss Louise Dunn of Memphis, Tennessee will arrive Saturday to spend Christmas with her father, T. A. Dunn. BOY SCOUTS TO MEET The Boy Scouts will meet Tues day, 6 P. M., and Sunbeams Wed nesday at 4 P. M. Prayer Meeting Wednesday at 7 P. M. i BARNETTE’S FLOWERS PARTY TUESDAY The Brownie Troop had their Christmas party Tuesday after noon at 4 o’clock. Christmas deco rations were used and friends were invited as special guests. There was a brief program, fol- following by the singing of Christ mas Carols. Lemonade, cake and Christmas candy was served. There were twenty-four present. Mrs. Frank Hudspeth is the lead- HOLZDAYS WITH FATHER Miss Tosephine Dunn, R. N., on the stair of Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, is spending the holi days with her father, T. A. Dunn. Enjoy Lovely Party The Tuckaseegee Ladies Club had their annual Christmas party at Riverbend Methodist Church Saturday night, December 16th. There were forty members pres.- ent. Additional guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Torrence and Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Howard. A delicious supper was served. Mrs. Pearlie Huffstetler, Mrs. Haskell Troutman and Mrs. Otis Hawkins were in charge of the games which followed. A humor ous part of the program was watching Warren Jones and Otis Hawkins lay pearls on the table for pinto beans. Another highlight of the evening was the enter tainment furnished by Leonard Harris by cutting out appropriate things for the postman from a catalogue. Mr. Torrence was the speaker for the occasion and introduced a wonderful project for the Sup erior Community. Mr. Howard also voiced his support to the club. An invitation is extended to all the women of that com munity who are not members al ready to join and co-operate in this worthwhile project. C.A.P. Banquet Held Wednesday Evening Members of the Mount Holly and Belmont squadron of the j Civil Air Patrol and a number^ of local residents interested in the Civil Air Patrol attended a ban quet held last night at the Lions Club building in Mount Holly for the local squadron. Lt. Richard Maimey, commander of the local squadron, was in charge of the • banquet and introduced the two Upecial guests, Lt. Col. H. H. ' Baxter, new commander of the N.C.C.A.P. and Captain McKee, liason officer of the state Wing. Service ribbons and other hon ors and awards were presented to the members of the squadron who had earned them at the ban quet. Lucia Club Enjoys It’s Christmas Party The Lucia Home Demonstration Club held its December meeting and annual Christmas party Fri day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Roy Nixon. Seventeen mem bers were present including the leader, Miss Lucile Tatum, who showed some impressive slides of the traditional Christmas Story, following the regular meeting. Then the exchange of gifts \ enjoyed followed by refresh ments. Four new members were added to the roll, Mrs. Grover Mrs. Elmer Meller Entertains Her Class On Monday night December 18th, Mrs. Elmer Meller was hos tess to her Sunday School Class from the Adrian-Madora Baptist Church, with a buffet dinner at her home on Elm Avenue. The class members had an exchange of gifts after which they pre sented Mrs. Meller three lovely gifts. Nixon, Mrs. Otis Nixon, Mrs:. Kirby Dellinger, Jr., and Mrs. E. C.
